How to Properly Mate Compression Limiters and Threaded Inserts in Plastic Assemblies

Stating that compression limiter could avoid the stress relaxation in the mating component by reducing the frictional load, this paper discusses the technique behind the proper matting of compression limiters and threaded inserts in a plastic assembly. It highlights that in order to avoid jack-out in a joint, the inner diameter of the compression limiter in the mating component must be larger than the outside diameter of the assembly screw, but smaller than the face diameter of the insert. Figures illustrating SPIROL series CL101, CL200, and CL500 standard compression limiters, and series 16, 20, 41, and 45 inserts for plastic assemblies are added in it. The paper concludes that for attaining better load distribution where the surface area of the insert is inadequate, a plastic which has good anti-creep characters and a compression limiter with maximum wall thickness should be used in the mating component.
