VCO Clock Source provides 100 ppm resolution.

Press Release Summary:

Manually programmable, self-contained Model PRL-174ANT-1350 generates TTL and ECL clock signals from 1.2 MHz to 1.35 GHz. Clock frequency is continuously adjustable from 600 MHz to 1.35 GHz from front panel. In fine adjust mode, full operating range is divided via 16-position rotary switch. In coarse adjust mode, 10-turn pot controls entire 600 MHz to 1.35 GHz range. Typical stability is 100 ppm over 30 min or 250 ppm over 12 hr.

Pulse Research Lab's New 1.25 MHz - 1.35 GHz Programmable Clock Source

December 15, 2005 - Torrance, CA - Pulse Research Lab (PRL) introduces the unique PRL-174ANT-1350 NECL/TTL Programmable VCO Clock Source. This self-contained clock source pod is manually programmable and generates TTL and ECL clock signals from 1.2 MHz to 1.35 GHz with high resolution (100 ppm) and precision, crystal-like, short-term stability.

The internal VCO clock frequency f is continuously variable from 600 MHz to 1.35 GHz from the front panel. In "fine adjust" mode the full operating range is first divided into ranges via a 16-position rotary switch. Within each range, the 10-turn pot provides high-resolution (100 ppm) adjustment. In "coarse adjust" mode the 10-turn pot controls the entire 600 MHz to 1.35 GHz range. Typical stability is 100 ppm over 30 minutes or 250 ppm over 12 hours (with a plus or minus 2°C temperature variation). An internal 9-bit divider (f/1 - f/512) divides the VCO frequency down to as low as 1.2 MHz. The module also features easy integration and connection to most types of devices and instruments via the TTL and NECL line-driver outputs.

Applications for the PRL-174ANT-1350 include precision clocks for high speed digital systems, low jitter clock source for testing A/D's, SONET clock generator, and a Basic Lab Tool for working with high speed NECL and TTL/CMOS circuits. For many lab requirements, the PRL-174ANT-1350 is an affordable and timely alternative to a large, expensive frequency synthesizer or custom crystal clock source (which can take up to 12 weeks for delivery).

The PRL-174ANT-1350 module is available to ship within two weeks, with an MSRP of less than $1,500. The unit includes an AC adapter for ready-to-use convenience on the bench or in a system. The 1.3 x 2.9 x 8.1-in. extruded aluminum housing is suitable for mounting with the optional brackets, and two units can share a single AC adapter using PRL voltage distribution modules.

Pulse Research Lab, established in 1990, provides signal buffering & translation modules for digital design, integration and testing. The company offers high-performance, affordable Basic Lab Tools and prototyping tools to professional electrical engineers, scientists, and technicians. Founder, David Kan, states, "PRL's charter has been to listen to our customers' problems and provide solutions. We've proudly and successfully been doing this for over fifteen years."
