USB to I2C Dongle has no software driver requirements.

Press Release Summary:

Enabling users to connect I2C devices via USB port, IOW24-DG operates at 100 kHz and allows of up to 750 bytes/sec throughput. Handshaking via clock stretching is supported, along with programmable time-out function, to prevent dongle from hanging up due to malfunctioning slave devices. Comprised of assembled PCB, 4-wire cable, and 2-part snap-fit dongle case, product is sized to not block adjacent USB ports and available with 5 and 3.3 V outputs to power small external circuits.

Saelig Debuts Dongle for Economical USB to I2C Connection with No Software Driver Requirements

Pittsford, NY, USA: Saelig Company, Inc. (Saelig) (www.saelig.com) has announced the availability of model IOW24-DG, a USB to I2C Dongle offering a simple, easy to use, economical solution for connecting with I2C devices via USB port.

Connecting sensors, service interfaces, test and evaluation circuits and other applications can be easily accommodated with the IOW24-DG I2C dongle. The I2C master interface operates at 100 kHz and allows a throughput of up to 750 bytes/s. Handshaking via clock stretching is supported, as well as a programmable time-out function, to prevent the dongle from hanging up due to malfunctioning slave devices. A special mode to talk to Sensirion(TM) humidity sensors is also available. The IOW24-DG dongle is shipped as a set, consisting of the assembled and tested printed circuit board (PCB), a four-wire cable and a two-part snap-fit dongle case. The cable can be soldered to the dongle PCB, allowing flexible pin-outs to fit customer applications. 5V and 3.3V outputs are also available to power small external circuits, such as ambient sensors. To allow compatibility with 3.3 V slaves, internal pull-up resistors can be switched off under software control. The dongle PCB has solder pads for pull-up resistors and protection diodes to 3.3 V.

The mechanical dimensions of the IOW24-DG dongle are within limits for use with a USB standard plug. This prevents the dongle from blocking adjacent ports and allows multiple dongles to be used on a single computer or USB hub without losing ports. Since the dongle is based on a standard IO-Warrior24 chip from CodeMercenaries, the software and development tools for IO-Warrior are also useable for the dongle. This means that support for Linux, MacOS, and Windows, as well as for many development systems, is available. No specific drivers are required, since the dongle works with its own standard built-in system drivers.

The IOW24-DG dongle is available now from Saelig, with units starting at $39.00 USD (qty: 1). For detailed specifications, free technical assistance, or additional information, please contact Saelig (toll-free in the US) 1-888-7SAELIG, via email: info@saelig.com, or visit www.saelig.com.
