New Seco-Carboloy PCBN Grades and Inserts Optimize Hard Turning and Milling Processes
Warren, Mich., January 9, 2003 - Seco-Carboloy has expanded its line of PCBN (polycrystalline cubic boron nitride) grades and inserts for high-precision hard turning and milling applications in both PCBN-tipped and PVD- (physical vapor deposition) coated solid PCBN styles.
The new PVD-coated solid PCBN inserts can be used for the machining of pearlitic gray cast iron, roughing and finishing of hardened steels and irons. Benefits of the new coating include enhanced wear detection, no detrimental effect on the surface, and improved tool life performance in certain applications. In hard turning application tests run by Seco-Carboloy, 100P has shown a 40 percent increase in tool life compared to uncoated PCBN.
The entire line of new PCBN tools maximize metal removal at high speeds while maintaining tolerance and surface finish requirements. New products include:
o Solid PCBN milling inserts in PVD-coated 100P and 300P or uncoated CBN100 and CBN300. Available in positive styles for finishing cast-iron; and negative style, with or without facets, for roughing and finishing cast irons and hardened steels;
o Solid PVD-coated 100P and 300P turning inserts in a large selection of standard shapes and sizes;
o Multi-tipped CBN10 inserts in positive and negative styles in two- or three-cornered versions;
o 13mm MDT (multi-directional turning) inserts in CBN10 or CBN20 for smaller internal and face grooving operations;
o Wiper inserts in single or multi-tipped style in grades CBN10, as well as solid CBN PVD-coated 100P and 300P; and a
o Solid CBN300 chipbreaker with increased cutting shear angle to reduce cutting forces.
