IR Emitters are optimized with 850 nm wavelength.

Press Release Summary:

Lead-free infrared (IR) emitters TSHG6200 and TSMG3700, suited for CMOS camera and high-speed IR data transmission applications, incorporate GaAlAs double hetero technology and have 20 ns rise time and 1.8 V max forward voltage. Model TSHG6200 has radiant intensity of 180 mW/sr at forward current of 100 mA and ±10° angle of half intensity, while surface-mount TSMG3700 combines ±60° angle of half intensity with radiant intensity of 10 mW/sr.

Vishay's New High-Speed, High-Power Infrared Emitters Are Optimized with 850-nm Wavelength

New Devices Target CMOS Camera Applications, Automotive Night-Vision, and Sensor Systems

MALVERN, PENNSYLVANIA - July 28, 2004 - Two new infrared emitters aimed at CMOS camera and high-speed IR data transmission applications were launched today by Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. (NYSE: VSH).

The new high-speed, high-radiant power devices are optimized with an 850-nm wavelength to improve the optical efficiency of CMOS camera illumination systems compared with industry-standard 870-nm emitters. Typical applications for the new devices will include night vision systems and seat occupant sensors in vehicles, for which the 850-nm emitters offer the additional advantage of the low aging rate enabled by their GaAlAs double hetero technology.

These two 850-nm emitters were released today, each with a 20-ns rise time and low 1.8-V maximum forward voltage.

For applications where maximum radiant power and intensity are required, Vishay offers the TSHG6200 in the leaded T 1-3/4 package. Radiant intensity is 180 mW/sr at a forward current of 100 mA, while the 5-mm package provides a ±10° angle of half intensity.

For applications where a device with a wider angle of intensity is preferred, Vishay is offering the TSMG3700 in the miniature PLCC-2 SMD package. This surface-mount emitter combines a ±60° angle of half intensity with a radiant intensity of 10 mW/sr and is easily mounted to printed circuit boards using automatic placement equipment.

Both the TSHG6200 and TSMG3700 are lead (Pb)-free devices.

Samples of the new emitters are available now. Production quantities will be available in Q3 with lead times of 12 weeks for larger orders. Pricing for U.S. delivery only in 50,000-piece quantities is $39.50 per 100 pieces for the TSHG6200 and $21.50 per 100 pieces for the TSMG3700.
