Chemline's 100% Solids, Fast-Set, Steel Coatings Offer OEMS Superior Option to Conventional Films

St. Louis, MO — Chemline offers high-build, fast-set polyurea coatings for steel that provide exceptional protection against corrosion, abrasion, impact and chemical attack. Chemline’s coatings greatly outperform conventional coating materials (such as paint films) in terms of durability because they can be layered up to 150 mils, allowing OEMs to apply a thick protective plastic membrane around virtually any steel structure. Chemline coatings are also fast set, curing to the touch within just a few seconds – essentially instantly – enabling OEMs to speed production and shipment. Additionally, Chemline coatings are 100% solids with zero VOCs for environmental friendliness. Applications include: above/below-ground steel tanks, pipelines, subsea cables, truck-bed liners, and automotive components among many others.

Chemline coatings are generally applied in thicknesses from 25 mils to 150 mils (or thicker for certain applications). Most often the desired thickness is approximately 60 mils or 1/16th of an inch. Most paint films are applied in much lower thicknesses (1 to 4 mils), because solvents need to evaporate in order for the paint to dry. Polyurea contains no solvents, so it can be built to the applicator’s preferred thickness.

Chemline’s polyurea coatings are also fast set. Other coatings, including paints, are solvented or water-based, requiring significant time to evaporate/dry. Polyurea cures quickly – forming a thick plastic film through the chemical reaction of two components. Coatings are then spray applied via a pressurized, heated, dual-component, spray application unit, such as a Graco ReactorTM.
