Acromag introduces BusWorks® 900EN-S005 Switch with auto-negotiation of data rate, flow control, and crossover signal compatibility for quick installation and simple operation.
Wixom, MI: Acromag's new five-port Ethernet switch is specially designed for use in industrial applications. Rugged construction and a variety of security features ensure reliable operation under demanding conditions. Internal intelligence enables "connect and go" operation for fast and easy network installation with auto-negotiation of 10/100 Mbps data rate, full/half-duplex flow control, and crossover signal compatibility. No configuration is necessary when the 900EN-S005 is used as a simple switch with Acromag's Ethernet I/O modules. For advanced users, this switch offers numerous control functions that are easily configured through DIP-switch settings or programmed using your computer. The switch has a list price of $395.
This industrial-grade network switch is ideal for use in harsh conditions. Unlike commercial-grade units, the Acromag switch delivers reliable performance over a wide -25 to 70°C ambient temperature range. A flexible power requirement accepts 15-36V DC supplies with redundant power connection for optional standby backup power. The unit is hardened for hostile environments to protect your equipment from RFI, EMI, ESD, EFT, and surges. It is also fully isolated for safety and increased noise immunity with power-to-network and port-to-port isolation. DIN-rail mounts and plug-in terminal blocks enable easy installation, removal, and replacement. CE approvals and UL/cUL Class I Division 2 listing are pending.
High-performance features ensure reliable communication and dependable operation. The 900EN-S005 switch supports 10Base-T and 100Base-TX protocols with automatic negotiation of 10/100Mbps data rates and half or full duplex communication with flow controls per IEEE 802.3. It also implements store and forward operation for 1024 frames to provide integrated address look-up supporting 1K absolute MAC addresses.
Additional features make this switch very easy to use. Automatic MDI/MDI-X crossover and auto-polarity eliminates special up-ink/down-link ports or crossover cables. Unmanaged stand-alone operation does not require PC control. Also, broadcast storm protection helps unburden switch resources from excessive broadcast messaging. Plus, an integrated 128KB (32Kx32-bit) high-speed SRAM frame buffer is shared by all five ports and supports 1.4Gbps memory bandwidth.
For advanced users, this switch offers optional DIP-switch programming to invoke alternative control of the standard switch functions. These optional functions include back pressure flow controls, an energy miser function, a toggle switch reset, and smart address management capabilities. More advanced options are programmable through use of a PC connection. The 900EN-S005 supports virtual LAN definitions and queue priority management controls.
