Discrete IGBTs replace thyristors and MOSFETs.

Press Release Summary:

Discrete NPT 1700V IGBTs offer solution for applications requiring 1700V power switching. Housed in TO-247 discrete packages or surface mount TO-268, "non-A" model is for frequencies <15 kHz and have VCE of 3 V, increased gain, and fall time of 300 nsec. They feature 90°C current ratings of 6 to 32 A, and provide transient pulse current capability of 24-200 A. "A" model for fast switching has fall time of <50 nsec.

IXYS Announces New Line of Discrete NPT 1700V IGBT

Maintains Its Leadership in High Voltage Products

Santa Clara, CA, January 23, 2003. IXYS Corporation (NASDAQ: SYXI) has announced the availability of a new line of 1700V IGBTs. These new IGBTs provide a cost effective solution for applications requiring 1700V power switching. They enable the designer to eliminate costly, lower performance solutions such as thyristors or series-connected MOSFETs or IGBTs typically used at voltages above 1200V.

These devices offer improvements in efficiency and reliability due to reduced voltage drop, lower switching losses and the need for fewer components. The products, based on IXYS' rugged NPT technology, are offered in versions for pulsed and fast switching applications up to 100kHz. The full range of products rated from 6 to 32 amperes is housed in the popular TO-247 discrete package, as well as the surface mount TO-268.

The "non-A" versions optimized for low frequency (<15kHz) applications have a VCE(SAT) of 3V, increased gain to allow high current pulses with standard gate drive voltage, and have a
typical fall time of 300 nanoseconds. They feature 90°C current ratings of 6 to 32 amperes, providing transient pulse current capability of 24 to 200 amperes. The "A" versions optimized
for fast switching, feature an industry leading fall time of less then 50 nanoseconds.

Many devices will be available as samples by mid-February 2003. All parts will be available as samples by April 2003.

IXYS' new 1700V discrete IGBTs provide a lower cost solution using standard PCB assembly for a broad range of high voltage applications. They are ideal for pulsed lasers, capacitive discharge circuits, defibrillators as well as other high voltage industrial and instrumentation applications. The high speed "A" devices are intended for high voltage, fast switching applications up to 100kHz such as induction heating, induction cooking, 480 to 575VAC offline inverters, flyback power supplies, UPS and microwave ovens, horizontal and vertical deflection circuits for CRTs.
