OZ Optics, Ltd.
Carp, ON K0A1L0
Jul 10, 2008 Foresight(TM) Fiber Optic Distributed Strain and Temperature Sensor (DSTS) uses Brillouin scattering in optical fibers to measure changes simultaneously in both temperature and strain along length of standard optical fiber, with spatial resolution as short as 5 cm. By wrapping or embedding a fiber inside any structure such as oil pipeline or dam, users can detect when that structure is being strained or heated/cooled and allow the problem to be corrected before failure occurs.
