Original Press Release:

Rustban(TM) 105. A New Cost Saving Concept in Corrosion Resistance Packaging from Michelman, Inc.

CINCINNATI. OH (July 10, 2003) - Michelman, Inc. announces the introduction of RustBan(TM) 105, a VCI (Vapor Corrosion Inhibitor) treatment for primary packaging of ferrous parts. RustBan is applied directly to corrugated, solid fiber and other forms of paperboard packaging during the converting process, eliminating the material and handling costs associated with placing corrosible products into VCI bags, or wrapping them with VCI treated paper prior to insertion into a box or other package.

With RustBan treatment, metal products can be quickly and easily placed into the primary package for storage and shipment. The RustBan packaging will protect against corrosion whether or not it is in direct contact with the contents.

Laboratory testing has shown RustBan treated corrugated packaging to be as effective as VCI paper and VCI flexible packaging. What's more, RustBan is nitrite-free and fully repulpable/recyclable. Its service life is up to two years under normal storage conditions.

Partitions, slip sheets and specialty paperboard products can also be produced with RustBan applied to both sides. Treated materials are gluable with a wide variety of coldset and hotmelt adhesives. RustBan can be applied with blade or rod coaters, either inline while corrugated board is being manufactured, or offline to linerboard, which will later be converted into a VCI container.

RustBan treated packaging is ideal for the shipment of automotive parts, appliances, electronic components, gearing, machine tool components and tooling; agricultural, military and marine equipment; or for the shipment of corrosible metal parts of any kind. RustBan packaging is especially well suited for overseas shipments.

Michelman, Inc. is a global manufacturer of waterborne, performance-enhancing wax emulsions, dispersions and powders for industrial applications; waterbased functional and decorative coatings for the paperboard and corrugated box industries; and inline coating application equipment for webbed paper and paperboard substrates.
