USB Interface offers baud rates up to 1 Mbps.

Press Release Summary:

Measuring 0.7 x 0.5 in., Micro-USB is based on SiLabs CP2101 single-chip bridge, which converts data traffic between USB and UART formats. Micro-USB uses standard USB 3 connector to interface with PC via USB cable, allowing connection to breadboards or PCBs. Interface only requires ground, RX, and TX signals and does not need modem handshaking lines from CP2101 chip. It operates from -40 to +85°C and offers suspend, reset, and 3.3 V regulated 100 mA source.

Original Press Release:

Tiny Ready-Made USB Interface

Adding a USB serial connection to your favorite micro or circuit with baud rates up to 1 Mbps is now as simple as adding 8 pads to your target board on a .1" grid. The tiny 0.7" x 0.5" Micro-USB uses a standard USB 3 connector to connect to your PC using a standard USB cable, allowing simple connection to breadboards or PCBs. Royalty-free rock-solid drivers are available for Windows, Linux, and Mac.

Based on SiLabs CP2101, and only requiring ground, RX, and TX signals, Micro-USB doesn't need any modem handshaking lines available from the CP2101 chip. But Suspend, Reset, and 3.3V regulated 100mA source is conveniently available from Micro-USB too. Operating temperature range is -40 °C to +85 °C.

Applications: Micro-USB makes an easy USB-serial interface, so you an easily create USB to RS-232 converters, USB to RS-422/RS-485 converters, upgrade legacy RS232 devices, make PDA and cellphone USB interface cables, barcode readers, POS terminals, etc.

CP2101 is a 5 x 5 mm single-chip USB to UART bridge that converts data traffic between USB and UART formats. The chip includes a complete USB 2.0 full-speed function
controller, bridge control logic and a UART interface with transmit/receive buffers and modem handshake signals. The device also features an internal 1024 byte EEPROM, a voltage regulator, a USB transceiver and an integrated internal oscillator, eliminating almost all external components generally required in USB applications. System development is further simplified by royalty-free device drivers for PC, (Windows 98SE/2000/XP), Macintosh and Linux platforms. User programmable custom Baud rates, integrated transceiver and precision clock, CP2101 supports USB suspend states. Micro-USB is optionally available with pin-compatible CP2102 (min. qty needed) this version - unlike with other USB ICs - supports all modem interface signals: hardware X-On/X-Off handshaking; 5, 6, 7, 8 data bits; 1, 1.5, 2 stop bits; odd, even, mark, space or no parity; on-chip 512 byte receive buffer; on-chip 512 byte transmit buffer; event character support.

Micro-USB is available now at $25 each (qty 1) from stock from Saelig Co. Inc. Pittsford NY. mfo@saelig.com; www.saelig.com
