University of Leoben Expands Nano-Scale Materials Research Capability with Imago Atom Probe Microscope

MADISON, WI - Imago Scientific Instruments® announced today the sale of its 3DAP(TM) model
LEAP® microscope to the University of Leoben (Austria). LEAP microscopy, also known as
atom-probe tomography, offers the highest spatial resolution of any microscopic technique with
compositional analysis. It allows materials-research scientists to analyze specimens in three
dimensions with near-atomic resolution, offering key insights into how a material's atomic
structure affects its mechanical and electrical properties.

The University of Leoben's Department of Physical Metallurgy and Materials Testing is one of
the largest, most prestigious materials-research facilities in Europe. Among other fields,
Leoben's research focuses on research and development of high-performance metal alloy
materials, correlating their material phase transformations and precipitation processes with
thermo-physical and mechanical properties.

"The 3DAP microscope will enable us to study precipitation-hardened steels and other
materials with unprecedented precision," said Dr. Harald Leitner of Leoben. "In our evaluation
of instruments, the 3DAP had the largest field of view, combined with a high mass resolution
and overall capability required for identifying metal isotopes at extremely dilute levels. We are
very impressed with the knowledge and helpful support of the Imago staff, and are looking
forward to working with Imago to develop new applications for this exciting new technology."

"We anticipate great research results from the staff and students working with the 3DAP at
Leoben," said Timothy Stultz, President and CEO of Imago. "Imago will gain invaluable
exposure to the next generation of atom-probe scientists at one of Europe's premiere technical
universities, with one of the largest materials-research departments in Europe."

The LEAP microscope is scheduled for delivery and installation in December, 2006.
