Ultrasonic Positioning System controls up to 4 workstations.

Press Release Summary:

Consisting of ultrasonic emitters, receivers, and control interface, UOS-100 promotes error proofing efficiency in industrial assembly applications. It enables users to determine position of tool or object in 3D space without requiring mechanical systems such as articulating arms. Communicating via Ethernet, system enables complete operation from propagation time measurement to output of calculated x, y, z coordinates of object to be positioned.

New Ultrasonic Positioning System Promises Improved Quality Assurance and Process Reliability, Increased Productivity

TWINSBURG, OH - Pepperl+Fuchs introduces the UOS-100 Ultrasonic Positioning System. Consisting of ultrasonic emitters, receivers and a control interface, the UOS-100 system is designed to significantly enhance error proofing in demanding industrial assembly applications. It is ideal for applications requiring assembly process assurance such as automotive assembly where screws need to be processed in a particular order. It is also ideal for the allocation of objects in assembly line production and other quality assurance systems.

Error proofing demands that one knows which work piece a fastening tool is operating on. In the past this has been accomplished by "footprinting" the operation and restricting the motion of the tool to a single footprint. Ultrasonic Positioning removes this limitation resulting in higher productivity without loss of process control, and enables users to precisely determine the position of a tool or object in 3 dimensional space without the need for complex mechanical systems like articulating arms.

The UOS-100 is a complete system - from propagation time measurement to the output of the calculated x, y, z coordinates of the object to be positioned. These coordinates can be used by a higher-level control system, with communication taking place via Ethernet, for individual workstation control.

One UOS-100 control interface monitors and controls up to four workstations at the same time. Systems can be cascaded together to allow up to 124 workstations to be networked and managed.
