Original Press Release:

New Vishay RFWaves Multi-Channel 2.4-GHz Transceiver IC Offers Data Rate of Up To 1 Mbps and a Wide Voltage Range of 2.5 V to 3.6 V for Cost-Sensitive Applications

MALVERN, PENNSYLVANIA June 15, 2007 Vishay Intertechnology Inc. (NYSE: VSH) today announced the RFW-NC, a new 2.4-GHz ISM transceiver IC. Designed especially for highly cost-sensitive RF applications, the device offers low power consumption and is easily and quickly integrated into end products. Additional features of the RFW-NC include a high data rate of up to 1Mbps, a wide voltage range of 2.5V to 3.6V, and a compact 5-mm x 5-mm outline.

The RFW-NC is a short-range, half-duplex radio transceiver that supports five different operating channels for a variety of wireless applications, including toys, home automation and security, wireless sensors, and wireless keyboards and mice.

By offering a very short lockup time and a signal acquisition time of only 1µs, the RFW-NC dramatically reduces overhead, enabling the design of highly efficient power consumption schemes without impairing performance, which is particularly useful in ultra-low-power products.

The new device has an indoor communication range of up to 8 meters and is designed to coexist with 802.11b/g, Bluetooth®, and other wireless networks. Its simple 3-wire bus digital interface is designed to enable very simple product integration. Little or no specialized RF engineering skills are needed to integrate the RFW-NC into end products, and extensive application notes and design documents are available to support system-level integration.

The transceiver operates over an enhanced temperature range of 40°C to +85°C, making it suitable for industrial applications. It is RoHS-compliant and operates in the worldwide, unlicensed ISM (Industrial Scientific and Medical) band of 2400-2483.5 MHz, complying with worldwide regulations and standards such as FCC and ETSI.

Samples and production quantities of the RFW-NC are available now, with lead times of 12 weeks for larger orders. Pricing for U.S. delivery is $1.20 per unit in 100,000-unit quantities.
