Watlow Enhances SERIES SD Temperature/Process Controller to Deliver Increased Functionality and End-User Cost Savings
St. Louis - Watlow, a leading designer and manufacturer of heaters, controllers and temperature sensors, recently enhanced its SERIES SD 1/32 DIN panel mount size single display PID temperature/process controller. The company added an optional countdown timer that supports timed temperature/process control, as well as on/off timing for a variety of external devices such as pumps, fans and lamps. In applications with timed system functions, integration of the timer and the PID controller may reduce the customer's overall system cost and complexity by eliminating the need to purchase two separate components.
The SERIES SD's set point can be programmed to control at the timer set point value during the timing period, and then revert to the static set point value when the count down time has elapsed. Either or both of the controller's outputs can be programmed to turn external devices on or off during or after the countdown time has elapsed, and several user selectable front panel display options are supported that allow users to tailor control information to their application preference. Additionally, the controller's display can be programmed to show countdown time, process value or set point.
"The countdown timer enhances the SERIES SD by providing additional functionality at reduced cost. Users gain this increased functionality without having to buy both a timer and a temperature controller - they can get it all in one discrete component and save money by doing so," said Roger Weichers, Watlow's product manager.
The optional timer is ideal for a wide variety of industries (particularly food equipment and precision cleaning), can operate in both open and closed loop modes, be set in hours, minutes and seconds, and supports all of the SERIES SD 1/32 DIN size single display controller's standard features and functionality.
Watlow has also introduced an optional connector clip, which is available on the entire family of SD controllers (PID, Ramping, Limits, Single Display and Devicenet(TM)). The clip prevents wiring connectors from working loose in applications that expose the controller to excessive shock or vibration, fits all DIN sizes and includes pad-printed installation and removal instructions.
The SERIES SD family's original features and benefits remain unchanged. The controllers continue to include a universal sensor input and can be programmed for heat and/or cool temperature control, as well as to have process and/or deviation alarms.
