Temperature Control System provides dual-output capacity.

Press Release Summary:

Series SY Low-Voltage Hot Runner System combines output capacity of 240 Vac and 18-45 Vac with choice of Series RMC or RMB controller modules in single package. Safety interlock prevents insertion of low-voltage Vac control module in 240 Vac mainframe slot, and diagnostics automatically inform user of fault conditions. Available in 4- and 8-zone sizes, system includes mainframe cabinet with fused circuit breaker/disconnect, step-down transformer, and floor stand.

Original Press Release:

New Series SY Low-Voltage Hot Runner Temperature Control System by Athena Controls Combines the Convenience of both 240 & 18-45 VAC Capacity with a Choice of Controller Modules in a Single Mainframe Unit

Plymouth Meeting, PA; March 2004 - To eliminate the need to own and maintain separate hot runner temperature controllers, Athena Controls, Inc. (Athena) has combined the dual output capacity of 240 Vac and 18-45 Vac with the advanced performance of either the Series RMC or RMB controller module configuration in one, convenient mainframe package. The Series SY Low-Voltage (Dual-Voltage) Hot Runner Temperature Control System (Series SY) is the perfect solution for injection molders who require precise control over hot runner applications using 240 Vac manifolds with 18-45 Vac injection nozzles.

The Series SY comes loaded with control and safety features. "There is a special safety interlock that prevents the insertion of a low voltage Vac control module in a 240 Vac mainframe slot," said Doug Crowell, Hot Runner Systems Product Manager. "Advanced diagnostics can also automatically inform the user of fault conditions, including open thermocouple, shorted thermocouple, reversed thermocouple, open heater, and high and low process temperature," he added.

Unique features of the Series RMB controller
The Series RMB is a microprocessor-based, single zone temperature controller specifically designed for runnerless molding applications. Its features include an easy-to-use operator keypad, two LED displays, and three discrete indicators for heat-current, alarm and manual mode. Other features include:

o Accepts Type J or Type K thermocouple input (jumper selectable)
o Built-in loop break, short, open, and reverse thermocouple protection
o Triac failure protection
o Ground-fault protection (U.S. model)
o Preset alarms at 30° F (17°C)
o Jumper-selectable soft-start mode
o Current monitor feature displays average current to load

Unique features of the Series RMC controller
The Series RMC is a microprocessor-based, single zone temperature controller that brings new and highly productive benefits to plastics injection molders looking for processing temperature control that's flexible, easy to set up, and simple to operate. The features of the Series RMC controller include:

o Startup in one of three user-selectable control modes.
o Lower and upper setpoint limits can be used to keep setpoint at safe operating temperature range
o Separately adjustable high and low deviation alarms
o In case of an open thermocouple, the operator can program the controller for one of three output states: Off, Last % Output, or User-Specified % Output
o Multi-level security "lockout" prohibits access to the module
o Current monitor allows the user to monitor the current to the heater
o Control via front panel or through Modbus communications interface

Features shared by both the Series RMC and RMB controllers:
o Control accuracy of ±0.1°F (±0.1°C)
o Operating temperature range from 32 to 999°F (0 to 537°C)
o Temperature stability is ±0.5% of full scale over the ambient range of 32 to 131°F (0 to 55°C)
o Dual digital displays
o Auto-tuning, with adjustable proportional band and rate
o CompuStep® provides gradual phase angle-fired voltage during warm up
o CompuCycle® utilizes zero crossover power to improve response time, reduce thermal fatigue, and prolong heater life
o Bumpless auto/manual transfer

The Series SY Dual-Voltage Hot Runner System includes a mainframe cabinet with fused circuit breaker/disconnect, step-down transformer and floor stand. The Series SY is available in either 4-zone or 8-zone sizes with an optional current-voltage monitor. The entire system may be ordered in CE, non-CE, or U.S. market configurations. A wide range of accessories and control modules are available to customize your system. Controller modules, mold connectors, terminal boxes, and combination cables must be ordered separately.
