"Twin" Switches for Pressure and Temperature Announced

Ceraphant T / Thermophant T Offer Simple Switching with Identical Operation

August 10, 2004, Greenwood, Indiana - Endress+Hauser announces the new Ceraphant T / Thermophant T "twin" electronic switches that are intended for applications in factory automation, machine tools, energy, as well as the traditional process industries of chemical, food and beverage, pharmaceutical, and water treatment. These pressure and temperature switches are identical in appearance and in their menu-guided operation. Ceraphant T is an electronic switch designed for absolute and gauge pressure measurement, whereas Thermophant T is an electronic switch designed for temperature measurement in gases, vapors, and liquids. Both allow for quick and safe process connections with unique adaptors (no assembly required) covering all common process connections. The "twin" switches have versions that meet 3-A sanitary standards to provide measurements in sanitary applications: PTP35 in pressure and TRT35 in temperature. The Ceraphant T / Thermophant T switches offer long-term stability and high accuracy overall.

The design of the switches allows for numerous benefits highlighting a stainless steel housing (AISI 316L) for resistance against chemical corrosion and mechanical abrasion. The surface of the switches is electropolished with a roughness level better than 0.8 micron resulting in easy and efficient cleaning of the housing. The Ceraphant T version PTC31 includes the pure ceramic sensor diaphragm, named Ceraphire®, which is unique on the market. Ceraphire® sensor is comprised of 99.9% pure ceramic (Al2O3) and enables improved reliability and corrosion resistance for use in highly aggressive media. Ceraphire® is the perfect solution to pressure measurement in vacuum applications due to its mechanical strength and long-term stability.

Both switches feature a backlit digital display that allows for perfect readability with 14 segments enabling the following engineering units: bar, psi, MPa, kPa, °C, °F. Units are converted automatically, which is unique to the market. The electronics used in the design were developed according to international standards IEC61508 / SIL2, which allow for the highest safety and quality in operation.

Modularity comes standard with the new "twin" switches allowing for sealing with a standard o-ring instead of metal on metal sealing. This results in lower stocking costs and flexibility with the ability to swap process connections in the field.

Complete on-site commissioning can be done with the three push buttons on-board. An intuitive menu-guided setup allows for an easy and safe switch operation for the plant, personnel, and environment. An alternative to the push buttons is the offline ReadWin®2000 configuration kit that can be used for setup via PC. The kit comes with an interface cable with modem and a ReadWin®2000 CD. The software can also be downloaded free-of-charge from www.readwin2000.com.
