TCP/IP Stack IC enables high-speed Internet.

Press Release Summary:

Incorporating TCP/IP stack and future-proofed 10/100 Ethernet MAC, fully hardwired W3150A+ offers standard MCU and SPI interfaces, fast access to transmit/receive memory, and dynamically adjustable Tx/Rx buffer-size allocation aimed at optimizing multimedia Internet transmission. Communications run at close to line speeds, encapsulating and stripping data streams rapidly, and making it almost impossible to run malicious code causing buffer overruns.

WIZnet Releases W3150A+ at ESC Boston- Offloads Stack for Hi-Speed Internet, Lower Costs

Boston, MA: WIZnet Inc. (Korea) announces the release of W3150A+ - a new, fully-hardwired TCP/IP stack that allows even low- end microcontrollers Internet capabilities at full speed. W3150A+ is an enhanced version of the popular W3150A Ethernet stack IC - but now with improved features like an SPI interface, and faster access to transmit/receive memory. W3150A+ has dynamically adjustable Tx/Rx buffer-size allocation, aimed at optimizing multimedia Internet transmission. W3150A+ incorporates a TCP/IP stack and a future-proofed 10/100 Ethernet MAC. Engineers are wise to off-load the burden of the TCP/IP stack into a second peripheral chip (complete with Ethernet MAC) because it can reduce debug issues and time-to- market with the design of the TCP/IP stack avoided, and the additional benefit of a more stable product. Simple 8-bit micros immediately have much more power since they no longer have the burden of TCP/IP protocols. TCP-offload improves overall system performance, reduces cost, power and size, and increases robustness. Engineers no longer need to have detailed knowledge of TCP/IP since this is all accomplished within the IC. Importantly, W3150A+ supports IGMP for multimedia streaming.

Supports ADSL connection (with PPPoE)
Simplified internal register access and command operations TCP, UDP, IPv4, ARP, ICMP, IGMP, PPPoE, Ethernet MAC
Supports keep alive function
Supports "Port unreachable" information in UDP.
High Throughput; 8051(max. 1Mbps), AVR (max. 8Mbps), ARM7 (max. 21Mbps) 10/100 Base-T Ethernet (Auto detection)
Supports 4 independent, concurrent Sockets
Full-duplex mode
Standard MCU and SPI interfaces
Internal 16Kbyte data buffer for Tx/Rx
Simple socket API interface
DHCP, TELNET, FTP, HTTP, DNS C source code provided with eval. board
3.3V supply voltage (5V I/O tolerant)
Small 64LQFP RoHS package

Many engineers are only aware of the TCP/IP suite when it crashes - not possible with W3150A+! W3150A+'s hardware TCP/IP stack allows communications to run at close to line speeds, encapsulating and stripping data streams rapidly. This is also advantageous for avoiding DOS (Denial of Service) attacks, making it almost impossible to run malicious code causing buffer overruns, etc. Application examples include: HDTV streaming, digital camera/phone image transmission, portable game players, multimedia streaming, etc.

Designed by WIZnet (Korea) and introduced at Embedded Systems Conference (Boston, MA), W3150A+ (<$5 @ 10K) is available now from WIZnet's distributor Saelig Co. Inc. from stock www.saelig.com info@saelig.com 1-888-7SAELIG.
