Original Press Release:

No Fiber Optic Signal Loss with Model 5191 Remotely Controlled QuickSwitch

Electro Standards Laboratories, Cranston, RI, has just announced the QuickSwitch Model 5191 8-Way Fiber Optic Remotely Controlled Switch/Converter. QuickSwitch 5191 acts as a signal source and prevents optical signal loss. Fiber optic-to-twisted pair conversion is built-in. QuickSwitch 5191 allows access to any one of eight fiber optic network ports from one computer. Pushbutton switching eliminates plugging and unplugging fiber optic patchcords, minimizing connector wear and increasing system reliability. An easy-to-read LED display indicates switch position and fiber link presence at a glance.

All eight network ports are 1300nm 100 Mbps ST or SC Duplex multimode fiber optic ports. The COMMON port converts the selected fiber optic network port to the 100 Base-TX interface. Internal circuitry insures isolation between networks/devices. The user can remotely control the QuickSwitch 5191 from the RS232 serial remote port. This switch can be customized for special applications.
