Cree Announces New Addition To XLAMP(TM) LED Family

Durham, NC, October 19, 2004 - Cree, Inc. (Nasdaq: CREE), a market leader of light emitting diode (LED) technology, today announced that its 4550 series XLamp(TM) products are now available in production quantities. The XLamp product family is an innovative, high power, solid state LED technology that is designed to provide an alternative solution to the incandescent bulb and other conventional light sources in architectural and accent lighting and other general illumination applications.

The 4550 series XLamp product uses a medium high-power surface mount package which is designed to operate at ½ Watt with a typical operating current of 125mA and a footprint of 4.5 mm x 5.0 mm. The 4550 series is available in blue and green versions based on Cree's XB500(TM) chips as a light engine. The 4550 product is also available in a red version.

"The 4550 is addressing the market demand for our XLamp products where high brightness and smaller form factor power LEDs are required," stated Norbert Hiller, Cree Vice President, Lighting. "We are pleased with our customers' interest level in this product and are continuing to innovate to meet their needs."

"Cree's new 4550 LED, which fits in former 5 mm design spots, enables us to offer higher output products without changing their well-established case design," said Fritz Morgan, Vice President of Engineering, Color Kinetics. "We've recently announced advanced versions of two popular products based on the 4550."
