New 3U CompactPCI Single-Board Computer from GE Fanuc Provides High Performance with Low Power Consumption

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - April 23, 2003 - GE Fanuc Automation Americas, Inc., an affiliate of GE Industrial Systems, today introduced the new 3U CompactPCI® single-board computer (SBC) - which offers high performance with low power consumption. This new SBC provides a low-power, 333 MHz Geode GX1 processor, integrated 2D graphics, and Fast Ethernet controller, supporting 10BaseT and 100BaseTX interfaces. The Geode GX1 processor dissipates very little power to operate over a wide range of temperature and environmental conditions. The 3U CompactPCI single-board computer is ideal for many industrial applications such as data acquisition and control, simulation and training, and transportation.

"GE Fanuc's new CompactPCI single-board computer has been designed to meet our customers' needs for a cost-effective, compact SBC with less than 10 W total power dissipation, fanless operation, and minimal power requirements," said Douglas Albert, vice president, embedded systems, GE Fanuc Automation.

This new single-board computer offers up to 256 Mbyte PC133 SDRAM and provides an extensive array of peripherals that maximize versatility. The CompactFlash card socket accommodates types 1 and 2 IDE compatible devices, including flash disk modules up to 512 Mbyte capacity or an IBM Microdrive hard disk up to 1 Gbyte. Other peripherals include Ultra DMA/33 IDE and floppy drive interfaces, a high-performance 16550-compatible serial port, enhanced parallel printer port with ECP/EPP, two USB ports and PS/2-style keyboard and mouse. Real-time features include watchdog timer, three 16-bit user-programmable timers, 32 Kbyte of nonvolatile SRAM, and real-time clock. Operating system support is available for Windows NT®/Windows® 2000, VxWorks, and Linux.
