Sherwin-Williams Tank Clad HS Meets AWWA And NSF Requirements

Epoxy coating formulated for interior linings of pipes and tanks containing potable water

(SAN ANTONIO - June 11-15, 2006) Sherwin-Williams Industrial and Marine Coatings group has many product offerings for the water/wastewater treatment industry. Among the useful protective coatings is Tank Clad(TM) HS, which is specifically formulated as an interior lining for pipes and tanks containing potable water, fresh water and salt water, and may also be used as part of a system for tank exteriors.

Tank Clad HS meets the requirements of AWWA C21003 for coating systems and is ANSI/NSF Standard 61 approved for potable water storage tanks and piping. Sherwin-Williams has received NSF- approval to use a low temperature hardener that enables the coating to be applied at temperatures as low as 40ºF in 1,000-gallon and larger tanks and in 8-in. or greater diameter pipes. With the standard hardener, Tank Clad HS is certified for 60,000-gallon and larger tanks. This 80% solids epoxy coating complies with EPA standards for VOC emissions and is excellent for immersion service. It offers direct-to-metal application for tanks and structural steel and exhibits superior chemical and corrosion resistance for prepared steel or concrete surfaces exposed to continuous immersion in potable water.

Tank Clad HS was developed with low molecular weight polymers capable of greater crosslink density. In addition to requiring less solvent for superior flow and leveling, the polymers produce more chemically and corrosion resistant finishes. Accelerated immersion and disbondment tests revealed that the coatings forms a strong bond to numerous substrates, including steel and concrete, and are compatible with both impressed current and galvanic protection systems.

Sherwin-Williams Industrial and Marine Coatings group serves North America with a broad line of high-performance coatings, comprehensive technical service, and the industry's largest distribution network. Relying on more than 140 years of experience in formulating industrial coatings, the group provides cost-effective solutions for applications where extreme corrosion, abrasion and chemical attack are present.
