Schottky Rectifiers handle current loads from 3-5 A.

Press Release Summary:

Housed in SMA, SMB, and SMC packages, SSA23L through SSC54 high-current-density surface-mount Schottky rectifiers handle 2 or 3 A, 4 A, and 5 A current loads, respectively. They offer forward surge capability and reduced forward voltage drop that results in less power dissipation and heating. Guardring provides over-voltage protection, and plastic package has Underwriters Laboratory Flammability Classification 94V-0 and built-in strain relief.

Vishay's New High-Current-Density Schottky Rectifiers Are Rated for up to Three Times as Much Current as Industry-Standard Devices

New Rectifier in SMA Package Handles 3-A Current Load That Previously Required a Larger SMC-Packaged Device

MALVERN, PENNSYLVANIA - January 6, 2004 - Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. (NYSE: VSH) today announced the release of a new series of high-current-density Schottky rectifiers that provide high efficiency and space savings with high forward current ratings in three compact package sizes.

The new devices are capable of handling higher levels of current in less space than industry-standard devices. The SMA-packaged rectifier released today can handle 2 A or 3 A, versus the industry-standard value of 1 A. Likewise, the SMB- and SMC-packaged high-current-density Schottky rectifiers can handle 4 A and 5 A, respectively, versus industry-standard values of 2 A and 3 A. In fact, the SMB-packaged devices are industry's first 4-A rated Schottky rectifiers in this package type.

Vishay's new SSA23L through SSC54 Schottky rectifiers in the SMA, SMB, and SMC packages are intended for power supplies, high-frequency dc-to-dc converters, high-frequency inverters, free-wheeling diodes, and polarity protection in end products including power supply systems, notebook PCs, motherboards, LCD monitors, DVD players, printers, and battery chargers for cellular and cordless phones and digital cameras.

In addition to excellent reliability with high forward surge capability, the new rectifier series offers significantly reduced forward voltage drop for less power dissipation, less heating, and more efficient operation. A guardring provides overvoltage protection. The devices' high current density, compact package sizes, and high efficiency allow for improved packing density on printed circuit boards, which in turn enables design of smaller end products.

The three package outline options available are the DO-214AC (SMA), DO-214AA (SMB), and DO-214AB (SMC), each of which features a plastic package with Underwriters Laboratory Flammability Classification 94V-0 and built-in strain relief. The devices are rated for a maximum operating junction temperature of +150°C, as well as for 25-KV ESD capability.

Samples and production quantities of the new high-current-density, surface-mount Schottky rectifiers from Vishay Semiconductors are available now, with lead times of four to six weeks for larger orders. Pricing for U.S. delivery in 10,000-piece quantities ranges from $0.05 to $0.12.
