Original Press Release:

Advantech Super Small 2.5" PXA-255 RISC Platform on Intel® XScale(TM) Technology Speeds Integrator Development

Irvine, CA, August 11, 2003 - Advantech Co. Ltd., delivering hardware and software solutions that empower the e-world, is now offering a new 2.5" RISC platform (PCM-7220) that helps customers target low power/space critical applications better. The PCM-7220 platform expands Advantech's existing 3.5" RISC platform product line, offering customers more power and expansion flexibility utilizing Intel® XScale(TM) technology. Though a small 78 x 104 mm (3" x 4") compact-sized form factor, this platform offers a complete list of functions and features, running Windows® CE .NET or Embedded Linux.

The PCM-7220 provides customers with a fast time-to-market and flexible reference platform that is fully customizable. All functionality has been completely certified and can be leveraged to customize various hardware specifications and system optimization needs based on customers' requests. This platform offers rich I/O interfaces (RS-232, RS-485 serial ports, SM bus, DI/DO, USB client, CompactFlash interface, audio, SD/MMC etc.) and high performance, using an Intel® PXA255 processor, a 32-bit up to 400 MHz SoC engine. It also reserves interfaces (such as LCD, memory interface, etc.) and a depopulated version for flexible configuration that maximizes high performance vs. cost. Like other RISC platforms at Advantech, PCM-7220 offers complete Evaluation Kit that includes HW and SW platform for project evaluation and development purposes.

Advantech has also developed a unified interface, called the AMI-120 (ARM Module Interface) interface, to expand the functionality of an existing ARM based platform using a standard or customized module in an easy, low cost and fast way as part of a RISC-based ARP solution. With the same dimensions as 2.5" RISC platforms, the AMI-120 solution module interface is the fastest way to modularized off-the-shelf or customized function expansion.

Due to its architecture and advanced semiconductor technology, the PCM-7220 embedded platforms are the best choice for critical embedded applications where low power, low cost, limited space, and mobility are needed. This ideal platform helps create next generation applications for industrial, mobile, handheld devices, distribution data management, human machine interfaces (HMI), in-vehicle telemetric / AVL / DBA, operator interfaces for data entry in the medical field and security controllers for the leading device manufacturers and solution partners.
