Original Press Release:

New Kontron 3U CompactPCI Processor Board Boosts Performance and Power Efficiency with 3rd Generation Intel Core Processors

Eching, Germany -- Today, Kontron introduced the high-performance 3U CompactPCI processor board CP3003, based on the 3rd generation Intel Core processor technology, delivering a new level of performance and at the same time highly improved power efficiency. Kontron's first Quad-Core 3U CompactPCI processor board provides customers with up to twice the processing performance and up to four times better 3D graphics performance compared to predecessor boards working at the same power dissipation envelope. This makes the Kontron CP3003 an ideal fit for applications that require high-end computing performance in space-constrained environments. Target applications can be found in markets such as industrial, transportation, test and measurement, medical and military.

The Kontron CP3003 comes with latest dual and quad-core CPU performance that is scalable up to the 2.1 GHz Intel Core i7-3612QE processor. For applications requiring lower performance and heat dissipation further low voltage and ultra-low voltage processors are available.

Compared to its predecessors, the integrated DirectX 11, OpenGL 3.1 and OpenCL 1.1 capable Intel HD4000 graphics provides an extensive performance boost and supports three independent displays. On two SODIMM sockets, the Kontron 3U CompactPCI processor board CP3003 features up to 16 GB DDR3 1600 MHz ECC-protected memory for increased data integrity and system stability. Additionally, up to 32 GB of SLC NAND Flash can be integrated to hold complete operating systems or application code which substantially increases overall system speed and availability. The Kontron CP3003 is available as single slot (4HP) version or as double slot version (8HP). The base board offers 1x VGA, 2x USB 2.0 and 2x Gigabit Ethernet ports on the front panel and further USB 2.0, COM (RS-232), and SATA 3Gb/s and 6Gb/s interfaces onboard or via the rear I/O connector. The Kontron CP3003-HDD extension module adds 2x DisplayPorts, 1x USB 3.0, 1x Gigabit Ethernet and a Serial port available on the front plus the option to hold a CFast module or up to 2x 2.5"HDD/SSD. As a second extension, an XMC carrier is available.

To guarantee the highest data and system security, the optional Trusted Platform Module (TPM) offers the required encryption, verification and storage capabilities for security-sensitive applications. The implemented Wake on LAN (WoL) functionality allows the board to save energy when not in operation and to be woken up from suspense state via remote connection. The Kontron CP3003 also provides a PCI 32-bit, 33 MHz (66 MHz on request) CompactPCI interface supporting the PCI passive mode feature. When installed in a system master slot, the CompactPCI interface is enabled, whereas the interface will be isolated when installed in a peripheral slot.

The Kontron CP3003 runs with Linux, Microsoft Windows 7, Windows Embedded Standard 7, Windows XP, Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2008 and VxWorks.
Highly integrated board support packages support all onboard hardware devices.

Full production of the Kontron 3U CompactPCI processor board CP3003 is scheduled for Q3 2012. For sample availability, please contact Kontron for more details.
