APT Europe Introduces Very Low Profile (12mm) 62 X 108mm Power Modules



Bordeaux, France..... Advanced Power Technology Europe, a leader in power module technology is pleased to announce a new product line of standard power modules in the 62 X 108mm SP6-P very low profile package for high frequency operation and applications where size and particularly thickness is a concern. The very low 12mm profile offers minimum parasitic inductance, solderable pins for easy mounting to a top Printed Circuit Board and a base plate for good heat spreading and best thermal resistance.

The standard product offering for these modules module include triple phase leg and triple dual common source configurations. Each leg is independent and can be configured as a three phase bridge or a large current phase leg when connecting the three legs in parallel. On the triple phase leg the emitter/source bottom switches are open connections which makes possible the implementation of current sense devices. These SP6-P modules are offered with FREDFETs for the phase leg modules, standard MOSFETs for the dual common source devices and also Coolmos(TM), NPT, PT and TRENCH IGBTs. Current ratings range from 13A to 100A @ Tc= 80 Deg. C for voltages in the range of 75 to 1200V for MOSFET, FREDFET and CoolMOS products Current ratings range from 40A to 90A @ Tc= 80 Deg. C for voltages in the range of 600V to 1700V for IGBT modules.

Other product options not listed below are also available upon request. These include:
- Additional current and voltage options
- Reconfiguration of the three leg circuit as a boost chopper circuit for Power Factor Correction (PFC) followed by a full bridge converter.
- Mixing of MOSFETs and IGBTs within the module.
- Other electrical configurations requiring very low profile, minimum weight, and enhanced electrical and thermal performance.

Applications
The use of the latest generation APT PowerMOS 7® MOSFETs , FREDFETs and PT IGBTs allows operating in hard switching mode in the range of 100 kHz to 200 kHz and at higher frequencies in resonant mode. For lower frequency applications NPT and Trench IGBTs are a preferred choice. Principle applications for this extended family are motor control, UPS, power supplies, welding converters and solid state relays for three phase mains.
