Power Adhesives to Introduce a Line of Glue Guns and Hot Melt Adhesives at CASTEXPO 2008, Atlanta, Ga, May 17-20, 2008, Georgia World Congress Center, Booth 1516

-April 2008

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Power Adhesives will be introducing three glue guns for applying hot melt adhesives to sand cores which offer faster and more efficient bonding at CASTEXPO 2008, May 17-20 in Atlanta, Booth #1516.

According to Power Adhesives, the TEC(TM) brand glue guns apply a hot melt adhesive to the sand cores and offer numerous benefits over other bonding systems such as water-based glues. Benefits include instant bonding with little or no wait time, improved bond application and accuracy, increased productivity and a reduction in scrap.

The hot melt adhesive also offers solvent-free application for improved employee health and safety and provides easier storage and drying. Bonding and assembly is instant with cold processes such as Cold Box, Alpha Set and Beta Set. With hot processes such as Hotbox, Warm Box and Shelf, bonding and assembly have to wait until the sand core and mold cools. For larger assemblies, both hot melt and water-based adhesives can be used.

Products To Be Introduced Detailed

Power Adhesives will be introducing three different models of the TEC(TM) glue guns at CASTEXPO 2008 and two types of TECBOND(TM) adhesives specially formulated for foundry applications. Glue guns come in electric only extrusion applicators or pneumatic electric applicators. All guns come with a one-year manufacturers warranty.

TECBOND(TM) adhesives available include the FOUNDRY TEC 501 for close bond joints and the FOUNDRY TEC 601 for faster setting bonds. Glue guns being introduced include the TEC 810, TEC-3200 and TEC 6100.

o The TEC 810 stick gun sets new performance standards for a glue gun of its size. A heavy duty to mid-range glue gun, the TEC 810 has many unique features including a full hand lever trigger that allows for better adhesive flow, a narrow profile handle with a soft feel grip and an extremely efficient heater housing. Warm up time is only two minutes for applications up to 380oF and melt rates are up to 4 lbs/hour. The gun uses ½-inch or 5/8"-inch adhesive sticks.

o The TEC 3200 is a high output, all-electric gun with a unique plug-in adjustable temperature controller and a high efficiency heater housing for application at temperatures of 202oF, 319oF or 355oF. This feature makes the gun ideal for foundry processes with different temperature requirements. Instant bonding ensures fast, efficient and cost effective production. Melt rates are up to 6 ½-lbs/ hour. The gun is loaded with 1 ¾-inch adhesive cartridges.

o The TEC 6100 is a high output pneumatic hot melt glue gun that has highly efficient twin 250 Watt steel heaters along with 500 Watts of power to meet the most demanding foundry applications. Features include a fully enclosed heater housing with silicon rubber nozzle shroud, a power-on warning indicator light for extra operator safety, a fast even melt rate, a solid long life PTFE barrel and a two piece easy flow nozzle for fast and smooth molten glue flow. Advanced design housing of the TEC 6100 offers maximum thermal efficiency for a fast warm up of no more than 5 minutes from cold. The gun is loaded with 1 ¾-inch adhesive cartridges. Reloading the cartridge takes only seconds, with an audible and visual signal minimizing down time. Melt rate is up to 9 lbs/hour, depending on the adhesive used and temperature requirements.

Easy to Use
To use any of the three gun systems being introduced, connect the glue gun to an air or electrical supply, depending on the model. The adhesive melts inside the glue gun chamber and once melted can be extruded directly onto the sand or foam mold.

"It may seem strange that hot melts can be used for metal castings where temperatures reach thousands of degrees Fahrenheit," noted Lee Stegall, Director of Sales for Power Adhesives, "but the insulation properties of the sand, the fast setting nature of the metal and the physical fit of the core maintain the integrity of the sand mold long enough for the metal to correctly solidify."

The TEC(TM) hot melt glue guns comply with worldwide industrial and safety standards and are available along with spare parts and accessories through strategically-located distributors in the U.S., Canada and worldwide.
