Dolch MilPAC Sets New Standard for Ultra-Ruggedness and Affordability

Dolch introduces fully sealed harsh environment portable computer

Fremont, California, September 9, 2002 - Dolch Computer Systems, the world leader in delivering ruggedized portable computer solutions, today announced the MilPAC(TM), a sealed and ruggedized, dust and dirt proof, indoor/outdoor portable computer. This ultra-rugged portable computer sets new standards for affordable, harsh environment computing. The MilPAC will be on display at the Modern Day Marine 2002 show in Quantico, Virginia, September 17 to 19 at booth 837.

MilPAC was built to survive both military and industrial "lethal zones" - applications where laptops and conventional portables can't survive - and take the everyday punishment portable computers are subjected to, in stride. It's engineered to survive situations in remote field service, on-site maintenance, flight line systems analysis, geophysical exploration, shipboard exposure, factory floor environments, and military deployment at a price that fits most budgets.

For field ruggedness, MilPAC's case is formed from corrosion-protected aluminum, designed to shield the internal components from up to 40Gs of shock. For environmental protection, MilPAC is IP 54 rated for weatherproof storage and transit. An upgrade to the MilPAC Plus provides an IP 65 rating for water resistant operation.

The fold-up keyboard protects the 14.1" hi-bright XGA TFT display. This 150-nit active matrix screen provides read-ability even in bright ambient light conditions. Add-in expansion is via three open PCI slots or optional PCMCIA slots. Worldwide functionality is assured by 110/220VAC augmented by an external 12VDC adapter.

"Dolch has built its reputation on rugged industrial portable computing," commented Jim Ciardella, company President. "Now, we are able to offer military type, ultra-rugged portable computer solutions with COTS pricing that fits our customer's budgets."
