Transition Networks Expands Family of Power over Ethernet Products with Addition of New 8-Port PoE Capable Switches

MINNEAPOLIS, May 22 /- The switching and conversion technology expert, Transition Networks Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Communications Systems Inc. (AMEX:JCS), today announced the expansion of its family of Power over Ethernet (PoE) products with the addition of two new PoE switches. This expands Transition's Milan portfolio of multilayer switching and wireless products, enabling customers to easily supply power to wireless and remote applications. For the first time, customers can deploy non- residential grade PoE solutions for high and low density requirements in fiber or copper networks. The new Transition switches enable customers to power legacy PoE PD devices that traditionally could only be powered by unused pairs or via reversed polarity system. They also offer a reversed polarity cross that is provided by an optional Power-Cross cable. The MIL-SM8TXAF2GPA is a DC or AC powered SNMPv1/2/3 switch that offers 8 ports of 10/100Base-TX with integrated POE injector for all eight ports. The MIL-SM802GAF is an AC-powered SNMP managed switch with 8 ports of 10/100Base-TX with an integrated PoE injector offers full PoE capability on four ports. "We continue to expand our portfolio of media conversion technology to accommodate customers across both residential and commercial applications," said Bill Schultz, vice president of marketing at Transition Networks. "While high-density applications are served well by switches, low density requests are now best served by compact switches with integrated power supplies, media converters and power injectors. With the addition of our two PoE switches, we are able to provide customers with a single switch that powers legacy, reversed polarity and standard PoE devices." Both new switches deliver a full 15.4Watts of DC power on each of either eight or four ports. PoE ports provide data connection and the power source (PSE) for such POE PD devices as Wireless Access Points, VoIP phones and Network Cameras. The switches include a PD signature sensing and SNMP power monitoring features per the IEEE 802.3af standard. Other PoE features include Over-Current Protection and Under-Current Detection. The series is fully compatible with devices that comply with the IEEE802.3af standard or it can also power non-compliant legacy products. These switches are capable of inserting power on the unused pairs of the MDI. In addition MIL-SM8TXAF2GPA features build in redundant power supply and it can be powered by either 90-240VAC or 48VDC circuits. Product Features Management features include PoE power Management (standard or legacy) per port, port based, dynamic or static VLANs for access, trunk and hybrid ports, GVRP, IGMP snooping and query, port mirroring and advanced port security. The advanced security includes static addressing, filtering and blocking of packets to identified MAC addresses. Four priority queues per port insure minimum delay for voice over IP while IGMP optimizes the switching performance in video multicast applications. Console port provides local management while Telnet and Web-based management offer monitoring and configuration via any network device. SNMPv3 is also available on MIL-SM8TXAF2GPA. Product Configuration and Availability The product will be available for shipping in July. The list price will be $695.00 and $555.00 for MIL-SM8TXAF2GPA and MIL-SM802GAF respectively.
