New Rugged PMC from Curtiss-Wright Controls Combines ARINC 429 Interface and Serial Communications on Single Card

New P429A PMC Uses a Custom FPGA to Deploy 4-Channel ARINC 429 Avionic Databus Interface and 4 RS-485/RS-422 Serial Channels on a single card

Leesburg, VA - March 14, 2005 - Curtiss-Wright Controls Embedded Computing (CWCEC) has announced a new rugged avionics communications controller PMC card that combines 4 channels of ARINC 429 (4 transmit & 8 receive) and four serial channels on a single card. The new P429A ARINC 429 communications controller is designed for use in VME and CompactPCI embedded systems.

The P429A features two on-board ARINC 429 controllers, each with dual ARINC 429 transceivers. The card provides four transmitter channels (with 128 byte, 32 word transmit FIFOs) and eight receiver channels (with 128 byte, 32 word receive FIFOs). Four RS-485/RS-422 serial communications channels (115.2 kbps asynch/4 Mbps synch) are also supported. On-board memory includes 64KB of Dual Port RAM for serial communication DMA data buffering for the RS-485 transmit and receive channels. 8 MB of Flash Memory is also provided on-board. All I/O is provided via the card's backplane.

A custom FPGA on the card provides the P429A's PCI interface bus to the ARINC, the serial channels, DMA controller, command and status registers, interrupt controller, PCI target controller and the Dual Port RAM and Flash memory. The FPGA also off-loads the host processor by providing eight DMA channels (four serial transmit/four serial receive).

"The P429A represents Curtiss-Wright Controls ongoing commitment to delivering the most cost-effective peripheral communications options for harsh environment military and aerospace appliations," said Lynn Patterson, vice president and general manager of Modular Solutions, CWCEC. "This new card embraces low-cost FPGA technology to deliver more performance and more I/O than ever before on a dedicated ARINC 429 communications controller."

This rugged, conduction cooled card is rated for operation in -40º C to +75º C environments. The P429A is built to withstand 0.1 g2/Hz vibration and 40G Shock (per MIL-Std-810E).

Software Support
Software support for the P429A includes drivers for Windows NT/Windows 2000, VxWorks and Solaris operating environments. Please contact the factory or visit www.cwcembedded.com for more information.

Pricing for the P429A starts at $3,500.
