Vectron International Announces Enhanced CD-700 PLL Platform with Improved Phase Noise Performance

Smallest PLL on the Market Offers Complete Solution to Meet Communications Customers' Demand for Synchronous Ethernet Support

HUDSON, N.H., Oct. 15 /-- Vectron International, a leader in the design, manufacture and marketing of Frequency Control, Sensor, and Hybrid Product solutions, today announced an enhanced version of its CD-700, now offering 10 dB better phase noise compared to the standard offering and meets a <1 ps rms over 12 k to12 MHz jitter spec, even at frequencies as low as 25 MHz. Vectron's precision quartz-based (phase-locked loops) products deliver low jitter timing distribution in support of the ITU G.8262 standard for synchronous Ethernet. Vectron's CD-700 combines inherent high Q quartz-based oscillators with advanced performance PLL designs that enable communications customers to bridge high quality clock synchronization to the Ethernet.

"Vectron works closely with customers to continuously improve and respond to changing market dynamics that directly impact their needs. With products that transition from traditional SONET timed and synchronized networks to Next-Generation Timing and Synchronized IP-based networks, our customers will be well-positioned to capitalize on the emerging Synchronous Ethernet market," said Paul Gilbride, director of market management, Vectron. "The latest version of the CD-700 does just that."

In today's ever changing telecommunications market, Ethernet has become the standard with the emergence of next generation networks. However, timing sensitive applications and bandwidth optimization requires synchronization, which is not possible with traditional Ethernet. Synchronous Ethernet is an approach that enables synchronization to be distributed over the physical layer of the Ethernet network in a similar way to the SONET / SDH standards.

The CD-700 is a 5x7 mm quartz-based phase lock loop solution, the smallest crystal based PLL on the market. It can be phase locked to a 25 MHz reference that varies as much as +/-100 ppm and can provide a "clock-smoothed" output with less than 1 ps rms over 12 k to 20 MHz jitter. It also includes a digital phase detector, op-amp and additional integrated functions for use in digital synchronization applications. Loop filter software is available as well as SPICE models for circuit simulation.

Specific improvements include:

o Offers 10 dB better phase noise compared to the standard offering

o Meets a <1 ps rms over 12 k to 20 MHz jitter spec, even at frequencies as low as 25 MHz

o Provides 2 clean outputs at 25 MHz and can track 100 ppm as required by Ethernet standards

o Includes a loss of input signal feature which sets a LOS output and be used as an alarm; this feature also

-- Sets the CD-700 output within +/-75 ppm of center frequency

-- Allows for outputs to be disabled for board test and debugging
