Aries Electronics Introduces New RoHS-Compliant 20-Pin PLCC to 16-Pin DIP Adapters



FRENCHTOWN, N.J., December 2006 -- Aries Electronics, an international manufacturer of standard, programmed and custom interconnection products, has introduced a RoHS-compliant version of its 20-pin PLCC IC to 16-pin DIP Correct-A-Chip(TM) adapter. The new adapter is a cost effective way of converting a PLCC-packaged type clock chip to a DIP footprint without changing the PCB layout.

The RoHS-compliant adapter features a PLCC clock chip on top with pin counts from 1 through 20 pins, and has a 1- through 16-pin DIP clock chip on the bottom. The design is unique in that it is slightly offset to avoid typical bypass capacity placement.

The body of the adapter is constructed of a 1.56 mm (.062") thick, glass filled IS-410 material with one ounce of copper traces on both sides. The male pins are brass alloy 360 with 10 µ" minimum gold plating per MIL-G-45204 over 100 µ" minimum nickel plating per SAE-AMS-QQ-N-290. Socket version pins are phosphor bronze alloy per QQ-V-750. The pads are finished with ENIG (Immersion Gold over Electroless Nickel), the suggested PCB hole diameter is 0.71 mm (0.028"), and the maximum operating temperature is 221°F (105°C).

The new adapter is part of Aries' Correct-A-Chip intelligent connectors that can modify existing designs without changing existing PCB layouts. The company will continue to offer the standard non-RoHS compliant version of the adapter for customers who require tin/lead plating. All Correct-A-Chip adapters are available in custom materials, platings, sizes and configurations to suit specific customer applications.

Pricing for a new RoHS-compliant PLCC to DIP adapter is $6.17 each in quantities of 500. Delivery is stock to three weeks ARO.
