Elma's Employs "No-Compromise" Design for Front Panels

FREMONT, California, July 14, 2004 - Elma Electronic Inc., a global manufacturer of electronic packaging products, utilizes a design that ensures the electrical continuity from panel to panel and a scratch-proof solution all-in-one. Elma offers these "no-compromise" front panels for VME, CompactPCI, VXI, AdvancedTCA, and custom designs.

Elma employs a two-step process for its handles by anodizing the front of the panel and alodizing the back and sides. By anodizing the front of the panel, it provides a scratch-resistant and non-conductive material. This is ideal for the front of the panel where unsightly scratches and abrasions are unacceptable. The back and sides of the panels are alodized (clear chromate conversion), which is conductive, but not scratch resistant. It is important for the inside of the front of the chassis to have electrical continuity from panel to panel. Therefore, only the back and sides of the panels are alodized for conductivity. As aesthetics on the back of the panel are not important, they do not need the scratch-proof coating. This technique provides an all-in-one solution for a protected front of the panel and electrical continuity between the panels.

The Elma front panels are available in a wide array of styles and have both segmented and continuous gasket styles. Elma's front panels and filler panels feature an alignment pin to ensure accurate lateral alignment and vertical orientation. Also, a wide range of customization services are available. For volumes of 1-2000 panels, high-speed milling services are utilized. For quantities above 2000 panels, Nc punch machines are employed for accurate and uniform stamping. Other in-house services include silk-screening, painting, overlays, and assembly of handles and springs.

Customization services are available. For more information on Elma's front panels and filler panel, visit www.elma.com or call 510-656-5829.
