Agilent Technologies Surpasses Double-Digit Bandwidth Barrier with Industry's First 13 GHz Real-Time Oscilloscope and Probing Measurement System



Unmatched Performance Level Vital for Development of High-Speed Serial Buses

PALO ALTO, Calif., Oct. 4, 2004 -- Agilent Technologies Inc. (NYSE: A) today broke the double-digit bandwidth barrier with the introduction of the industry's first oscilloscope and probing measurement system with a maximum real-time bandwidth of 13 GHz and a maximum sample rate of 40 GSa/s. The Agilent Infiniium DSO80000 Series oscilloscopes and the Agilent InfiniiMax II Series probing measurement systems include 10, 12 and 13 GHz versions. The unmatched performance level of these new offerings is vital to engineers designing high-speed serial buses, RF and wireless products, and other ultra-high-speed electronics.

Today's industry serial bus standards such as Fibre Channel, fully buffered DIMM (FBD), serial ATA (SATA), serial attached SCSI (SAS) and PCI Express have performance points that will reach into the 4 to 8 Gb/s range next year. Proprietary high-speed serial buses can also have clock rates in the 4 to 8 Gb/s range as well as edge speeds with rise-times faster than 50 ps (20 to 80 percent). High-performance oscilloscopes, such as Agilent's new 10, 12 and 13 GHz, 40 GSa/s scope and respective probing system, are required to capture the frequency harmonics and make accurate and repeatable measurements on such high-speed signals.

Previously, designers were limited by oscilloscopes with a maximum real-time analog bandwidth of 8 GHz. The 13 GHz real-time bandwidth of the DSO81304A offers over a 50-percent performance improvement versus previous products. This translates into higher signal fidelity, more accurate and repeatable measurements and improved test margins for high-speed electronics designers. High-speed signal components previously hidden to engineers can now easily be seen by this benchmark-setting test tool.

The Agilent Infiniium DSO80000 Series of 10, 12 and 13 GHz real-time oscilloscopes and InfiniiMax II Series probing systems are available for order now with shipments expected in February 2005. The DSO81304A uses DSP software techniques to increase its bandwidth from 12 GHz to 13 GHz; the DSO81204A and DSO81004A do not use DSP software to increase their bandwidth.
