Vectron International Announces Ultra Low Noise OCXOs, New Crystal and Circuitry Technology

Industry Leading Phase Noise Drives Performance Improvements for Phase Noise Test Sets, Signal Generators and Spectrum Analyzers

HUDSON, N.H., -- Vectron International, a leader in the design, manufacture and marketing of Precision Frequency Control and Timing Solutions, today announced its OX-045, an Ultra Low Noise (ULN) oven-controlled crystal oscillator (OCXO). The OX-045 is the inaugural product offering with Vectron's unique ULN crystal and circuitry technology. The OX-045 will be showcased in Booth 1615 at the 2010 IEEE MTT-S International Microwave Symposium, to be held May 25-27, 2010 in Anaheim, California.

The OX-045 improves Vectron's existing low-noise products by lowering the close-in phase noise by 10dBc/Hz, allowing customers to improve the performance of their top of the line test equipment. It utilizes an Ultra Low Noise fifth overtone SC-cut crystal offering the best close-in phase noise and aging performance. The crystal is then mated with Vectron's new proprietary oscillator circuit to minimize any additional noise contributions.

"Phase noise is usually the limiting factor in test equipment performance," said Dave Bail, director of product marketing, Vectron International. "Better phase noise improves our customers' system resolutions. As data rates in today's communications systems continue to climb higher, the technical demands on test equipment also increase. As the reference, OCXO performance, particularly phase noise performance, drives overall system performance."

"Throughout our 50-year history, Vectron has earned a reputation as an innovator and we will continue to invest in breakthrough technologies to reach new levels of performance for our customers," said Gregory Smolka, vice president, Industrial, Military and Space business unit, Vectron International. "Previously, this performance level was only available with costly and complex products. Our investment in Ultra Low Noise technology will allow us to better support our customers' roadmaps today and in the future."

Specific features of the OX-045 include:

  • Industry leading close in phase noise for a 10 MHz OCXO

    -- -140 dBc/Hz at 10 Hz offset

    -- -163 dBc/Hz Noise Floor

  • Excellent Temperature stability of plus/minus 3 ppb -0 degrees C to 70 degrees C

  • State-of-the-art yearly aging of 10 ppb/year
