MTS Completes World-Class Toyota Driving Simulator Project

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn., Jan. 3- MTS Systems Corporation (NASDAQ:MTSC) today announced that it has completed the development and installation of the Motion System for the new Toyota Motor Corporation world-class driving simulator located at the Higashifuji Technical Center in Shizuoka, Japan. The driving simulator includes the MTS motion mechanisms, controls and control software that provides scalable motion performance and response measurement. MTS was awarded this multimillion dollar project in 2005.

"MTS is proud to have been chosen for this project," said Sidney W. Emery, Jr., chairman and CEO. "Toyota selected MTS because of our exceptional ability to solve challenging force and motion control problems. Engineering advanced vehicle simulation systems is at the heart of our competencies. This project furthers our mission of being the leading worldwide manufacturer of mechanical testing solutions that improve customers' product development processes."

Mr. Yonekawa, senior staff engineer of Toyota Motor Corporation, stated, "With this simulator, we will develop the safety technology that helps prevent an accident before it happens. We needed a driving simulator that could analyze one of the greatest factors contributing to traffic accidents: the driving characteristics of the driver. Therefore, we required a first-class motion system that was able to provide a driving experience that was as real as possible, so that driving characteristics could be accurately gauged."

By using screen images, an acceleration simulator and other technology, the driving simulator provides the most realistic virtual driving environment in existence. It is used to conduct driving tests that would be too dangerous to perform in the real world or that require specific driving conditions that are difficult to simulate. Toyota intends to use the simulator for analysis of the driving characteristics of drivers, research and development of traffic accident-reducing active safety technology, and evaluation and verification of preventive safety technology.
