Modules integrate linear on-off valves into bus networks.

Press Release Summary:

Able to tie on-off knife gate, globe, and other linear valves into bus networks, modules consist of 2 Hawkeye linear position sensors and one JM I/O module with integral pneumatic valve. Red or green LEDs with NO or NC function may be selected. User may also select from low-power solenoid pneumatic valve or ultra low-power Piezo valve. Total power consumption with Piezo Foundation Fieldbus module is less than 16 mA.

Bus Network Linear On-Off Valves with Off-the-Shelf Modules

FERGUS FALLS, MN (September 17, 2003) - Simple, cost-effective modular components from StoneL now make it possible to tie on-off knife gate, globe and other linear valves into bus networks to eliminate extensive separate wiring. The job can be done conveniently using durable, off-the-shelf components designed and integrated for fast and easy installation.

The three components required are Hawkeye linear position sensors (one for open and one for closed indication) and a JM I/O module with integral pneumatic valve. The solid state Hawkeye sensor is encased in 316 stainless steel and Lexan, temporarily submersible and FM/CSA certified for Class I & II division 2 areas. Red or green LEDs with either normally open or normally closed function may be selected. Cord lengths and plug-in mini connectors are also available.

The JM I/O Module is used to interface field devices (input sensor and output control) into the bus network in both hazardous and general purpose environments. For linear valve applications, the JM I/O module may have an integral pneumatic valve, which offers high air flow capabilities (Cv of 0.7) and exceptional tolerance to dirty air.

The user may select from a standard low power solenoid pneumatic valve when using AS-Interface, DeviceNet, Modbus or separately powered Foundation Fieldbus H1 modules, or an ultra low-power Piezo valve, which may be driven directly from the Foundation Fieldbus communication network. Total power consumption with the Piezo a Foundation Fieldbus module is less than 16mA, maximizing the number of units on any one segment of the network.

StoneL's Junction Module (JM) enclosure is an environmentally hardened platform suitable for most corrosive and hazardous process environments. The JM features a wide variety of bus networking capabilities for protocols used in the process industries. Its flexibility and functionality makes it an essential building block for bus network users.

Since the bus network eliminates the need for conventional wiring, this approach can reduce installation costs by as much as 40%, including the cost of the modular components.
