Primo Star from Carl Zeiss

The High Performance Microscope for Education and the Laboratory

Jena/Goettingen, Germany, 05/31/2006.
With Primo Star, Carl Zeiss is presenting a new generation of educational microscopes that are easy to operate and offer a high level of perfor- mance at an attractive price. Combined with exceptional stability, a high degree of modularity, and a fresh design, these benefits ideally meet the requirements of microscopy education in universities, medical training centers and Community colleges. With its ergonomic 30° viewing angle, the microscope also offers special advantages for biomedical laboratory applications in the clinical field. Ten configurations are available to meet the different requirements.

The applications range from the examination of biomedical specimens using brightfield, phase contrast and darkfield, to outdoor field use which is also possible without electrical supply using the optional tilting mirror.

Ideally designed for educational use, Primo Star offers numerous innovative solutions: a modular illumination concept was developed with the choice between a 30 W halogen bulb, LED and the tilting mirror. This means that, for the very first time in this instrument class, it is possible to switch between the various types of illumination, with easy, convenient replacement of used bulbs. The control display on both sides of the stand provides information about the light intensity of the microscope - even from a distance of several meters. The integrated carrying handle allows simple, safe transportation from the lab bench to the storage cabinet. The external arrangement of the power supply unit in the rear panel allows easy replacement in the event of damage and ensures tidy stowing of the supply cable. Further benefits include the ergonomically correct Siedentopf tube with two different viewing heights, the variable interocular distance between 48 mm and 75 mm, reversed nosepiece, course focus with friction control and fine focus with jog/shuttle knob on the right side of the stand.

A phototube with 50/50 splitting (doc : vis), two C-mount adapters (1/2" and 2/3") and a universal adapter for commercial digital cameras are avai- lable for documentation purposes. Axio Vision LE Canon software is now offered for selected Canon digital cameras and has been specially developed for the native control of these cameras and their use in the lecture room and simple lab applications.
