Microchip Technology Adds More Low Pin Count Members To The World's Highest Performance 16-Bit MCU Family



PIC24H Family Additions Provide 40 MIPS Performance With Up to 32 Kbytes of Flash Memory in 28- and 44-pins; as Small as 6x6 mm Packages

CHANDLER, Ariz., Nov. 27, 2007 [NASDAQ: MCHP] - Microchip Technology Inc., a leading provider of microcontroller and analog semiconductors, today announced three additions to the PIC24H high-performance 16-bit microcontroller family-featuring low pin counts with up to 32 Kbytes of Flash program memory in packages as small as 6x6 mm. These 28- and 40-pin, 40 MIPS devices start at $2.29 each in 10,000-unit quantities and are developed for cost-sensitive, space-constrained applications.

Microchip is the only company to offer seamless migration among all of its 8-, 16- and 32-bit devices, including pin, peripheral, software and tool compatibility between its 16-bit and 32-bit microcontrollers and DSP-enabled DSCs. Being able to easily migrate among the more than 100 dsPIC® DSCs and PIC24 microcontrollers in Microchip's rapidly growing 16-bit portfolio accelerates time to market and provides a path to quickly respond to requirement changes during the design process, while providing the scalability to serve many applications.

The PIC24HJ32 family also features Peripheral Pin Select, which allows designers to remap digital I/O to optimize board layout-enabling smaller boards, less noise and the use of a lower pin count microcontroller. Other key features of the new microcontroller family include:
o 40 MIPS performance in 6x6 mm packages
o 32 or 16 Kbytes of Flash and 2 Kbytes of RAM
o Analog-to-Digital Converter w/ up to 13 channels, and user-selectable 10-bit or 12-bit mode
(10-bit mode enables simultaneous sampling, eliminating lag time between samples)
o 1 UART, 1 SPI and 1 I2C(TM) Port

Development Support
The PIC24HJ32 family is supported by the full complement of tools that are common to all of Microchip's controllers, including the free MPLAB® Integrated Development Environment with its Visual Device Initializer component, which graphically assists designers in mapping pins and initializing code for the on-chip Peripheral Pin Select pin-mapping function. The MPLAB C30 C compiler provides industry-leading code densities, along with math and peripheral libraries. =For emulation and debugging, Microchip offers the full-featured MPLAB REAL ICE(TM) tool and the low-cost MPLAB ICD 2 tool. Finally, the 16-bit 28-pin starter board (part # DM300027) can be used for development with any of Microchip's 28-pin 16-bit microcontrollers and DSCs, while the 44-pin family members are supported with a plug-in module for the Explorer 16 Development Board (part # DM240001).
