OGP Announces SmartScope Quest 650 with Five-Axis Measurement Capability

Rochester, NY, February, 2005 - Optical Gaging Products, Inc. (OGP®) announces programmable five-axis measuring for its large-measurement-volume dimensional metrology system, SmartScope® Quest 650. A motorized heavy-duty dual rotary indexer allows SmartScope Quest sensors to measure features anywhere on the most complex parts. OGP MeasureMind metrology software supports simultaneous five-axis motion, keeping the coordinate system aligned with the rotating part. This automatic system accurately measures complex parts such as turbine blades, vanes, and airfoils.

OGP has applied its twenty years of multisensor experience to the development of SmartScope Quest 650, allowing it to measure a wider variety of part features in a single setup. Quest 650, designed from the ground up for precision metrology at accuracies unparalleled in the industry, includes high-speed linear motors, a large working volume, support of a variety of sensors (video, laser, touch probe, micro-probe), and the ability to switch between sensors at any point in a measurement routine. SmartScope Quest 650 measures complex parts quickly, easily and accurately, reducing costs and increasing productivity.

Quest 650 offers leading edge video measurement capabilities with the versatility and convenience of its high magnification zoom lens. As Tom Groff, OGP Corporate Product Manager, points out, "Our patented TeleStar zoom lens is designed specifically for precision video metrology. It is telecentric and provides a phenomenally clear, high contrast image with virtually zero distortion." Groff emphasized, "This lens, with OGP's AccuCentric auto-calibration of magnification, excels at measuring parts that are troublesome to other optical systems."

SmartScope Quest 650 features a massive granite base and a thermally stable Meehanite bridge, providing stability over an XYZ measurement volume of 600x660x300 mm (24x26x12 inches). The Z-axis range can be extended to 400 mm (16 inches). Its high speed, liquid cooled, linear-motor-driven stages and 50 nanometer scale resolution provide high throughput and high accuracy. Groff added, "This newly designed platform, TeleStar optics, five-axis measurement, multisensor support, and MeasureMind 3D MultiSensor metrology software make SmartScope Quest 650 a highly versatile system. It offers significantly improved measurement accuracy, overall capabilities, and productivity for the kinds of complex parts being designed and manufactured with the latest CAD/CAM technologies, or made on five-axis machine tools."

SmartScope Quest 650 is the largest member of the Quest family of high accuracy multisensor metrology solutions from OGP. With four models to choose from, SmartScope Quest precision is available for parts of most any size. Applications for SmartScope Quest include measurement of manufactured parts made of nearly any material from virtually every industry.

Several software options are available for SmartScope Quest, including applications for CAD import, 2D and 3D contour analysis and fitting, shop floor user interface, and customized report generation and data export.
