Expanded Possibilities for Popular Metal Pushbutton

Metal Switch Now Offered with Double Pole Contacts and Sealed Microswitch

SANTA ROSA, Calif., October 18, 2007- Schurter has taken the popular MSM vandal proof metal switch with single pole momentary actuation and expanded the line to include a double pole version and a version with sealed microswitch.

The new MSM DP momentary switch is designed with two separate switching contacts. The contacts can be used as normally open, normally closed or as change-over. The MSM DP is ideal for switching primary and secondary circuits, where an additional set of contacts is required for an auxiliary function. Applications include industrial, commercial and public access areas, where signals are used to indicate when an apparatus is in use or an emergency situation is present. Such applications include activating a door or gate, while signalling a remote control area to indicate entry. Or, activating an emergency stop switch in an elevator to shut it down, while sending an alarm to the operator at the same time. In other applications a momentary double-pole switch is used to operate only when depressed and held by an operator. Examples of applications using this switch action are soft drink dispensers and tailgate lifts found on trucks.

The MSM SPDT and DPDT have seal protection to the front of the actuator, as well as to the panel with a sealing o-ring. An IP 67 microswitch option has been added, which provides an integrated seal between the actuator and the microswitch, as well as around the switch terminals. The completely sealed switching unit can be used in adverse conditions when increased humidity, condensation or water seeps in through openings in the equipment housing. Typical applications include outdoor installations, commercial cooking appliances, and industrial laundry equipment.

The MSM switches are extremely robust. The stainless steel construction with virtually a flat front has a depth of only 1.7mm, a protection class of IP67 and high shock resistance, making it ideal against vandalism. The MSM switches are available in several mounting dimensions of 16, 19, 22, and 30mm, depending on version. The microswitch carries both UL and ENEC approvals. The standard MSM is rated 3A/250 VAC and 5A/125VAC. The MSM with sealed microswitch is rated 5A/250 VAC. Standard or lettered versions with optional point or ring illumination in a variety of colors are also offered. Check for custom design including color, or switching capacity. Delivery for standard types is stock to 8 weeks. Pricing starts at under $10 at 100 pieces.
