New Gore(TM) Membrane Vents Protect Sensitive Equipment, Reduce Cost

Elkton, MD, October 22, 2002 -- W. L. Gore & Associates, Inc., has announced that its industrial membrane vents are now available in the standard metric M12 thread size for screw-in applications.

These new configurations offer the same advantages as the other items in the GORE(TM) Membrane Vents line, specifically, many of the benefits of hermetic sealing at significantly lower cost. GORE(TM) Membrane Vents allow the passage of gases IN and OUT of enclosed structures such as housings while at the same time providing protection against water inflow. This reduces the pressure changes that can cause contaminants to be drawn inside where they can dramatically shorten the life of sensitive components.

GORE(TM) Membrane Vents offer this unique combination of fluid resistance and breathability through the use of expanded polytetrafluoroethylene (ePTFE). A highly porous structure of fibrils and nodes, GORE(TM) membrane material ensures a high rate of airflow while permanently helping to protect against water and small particles such as dust. The membrane is resistant to water, oils and chemicals, UV resistant, and stable through a wide temperature range.

GORE(TM) Membrane Vents are used worldwide in applications where sensitive electronic components such as telecommunications devices may be exposed to environmental contamination, in gauges and meters that may be exposed to harsh chemicals, and in battery-operated devices that can develop internal explosive atmospheres due to hydrogen buildup. Recently they have been found ideal for use in acoustic covers, alarm systems and in a variety of marine applications.

GORE(TM) Membrane Vents are available in a wide variety of sizes and configurations and integrate easily into existing electronic enclosures and manufacturing methods.
