LED Illuminators light up targets for inspection.

Press Release Summary:

Diffuse, diffuse axial, ring, spot, and line lights provide backlighting and darkfield illumination for machine vision, microscopy, and inspection systems. Diffuselites project light distribution ±5% edge to edge. Diffuse axial lights provide light distribution of ±8% across aperture. Ring lights and spotlights project light distribution of ±5% or ±10% edge to edge, respectively. Line lights provide white line 3 in. long and 1/4 in. wide.

Edmund Industrial Optics Announces LED Illumination Products

May 15, 2002, Barrington, NJ - Edmund Industrial Optics (EO) of Barrington, New Jersey has announced new additions to their line of LED illumination products. These lights provide the long lifetimes and low power consumption typical of LEDs and are used in Machine Vision, Microscopy, and Inspection Systems.

EO provides diffuse lights, diffuse axial lights, ring lights, spotlights, line lights, and several products designed to provide backlighting and darkfield illumination. Lights are available with 660nm (Red), 880nm (Near IR), white, or RGB (Red, Green, and Blue) illumination. The RGB option allows the intensity of the Red, Green, and Blue LEDs to be individually controlled. White and RGB light is typically used for color imaging systems while single color lights are generally used for monochromatic applications.

The Diffuselite products provide projected light distribution of +/- 5% edge to edge with white, 660nm, or RGB LEDs. The diffuse axial lights in red, near-IR, or white colors provide projected light distribution of +/- 8% across the entire aperture and are ideal for inspecting highly reflective objects.

Ring lights and spotlights are available in all four colors, and provide projected light distribution of +/-5 % or +/-10 % edge to edge, respectively. Line lights provide a white line 3in. long and 1/4-in. wide at a standoff distance of 1 inch with a light distribution of +/- 5% over the illuminated area.

The backlight provides 50 x 50, 100 x 100, or 100 x 200mm active areas with 660nm, 880nm, or white LEDs. The darkfield light, ideal for enhancing scratches, cracks and bubbles in clear objects, has 660nm or white LEDs arranged in a circle with a diameter of either 2.15 or 5 inches.

The LED illumination products can provide continuous or strobed light depending on the power source chosen.
