LDO Controller is optimized for driving n-channel MOSFETs.

Press Release Summary:

With adjustable and fixed 1.2 and 1.5 V output voltages, Model SiP21301 LDO controller uses external n-channel MOSFETs to provide drop-out voltages of less than 50 mV with 80% efficiency. Operating from 2.5-0.65 V, it delivers 1 to 7 A of current with 1% output voltage accuracy. Unit features programmable inrush current protection on start up, short-circuit protection, thermal shutdown, under-voltage lockouts, and -40 to +125°C junction temperature range.

Vishay's New SiP21301 LDO Controller Offers Adjustable and Fixed 1.2-V and 1.5-V Output Voltages with 80% Efficiency

Device Delivers 1 A To 7 A of Current With 1 % Output Voltage Accuracy to Drive N-Channel MOSFETs in FPGA, DSP, and ASIC Applications

MALVERN, PENNSYLVANIA - Jan. 3, 2008 - Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. (NYSE: VSH) today released an LDO controller with adjustable and fixed output voltage options that uses external n-channel MOSFETs to provide extremely low drop-out voltages of under 50 mV at very high currents, up to 7 A, with 80 % efficiency.

The SiP21301 device is optimized for driving n-channel MOSFETs to power FPGAs, ASICs, and ASSPs in game consoles, set top boxes, LCD televisions, and networking equipment. Because it works with an external n-channel MOSFET with a separate supply voltage, the SiP21301 allows designers to choose the FET with the on-resistance, drop-out voltage, output current, and power dissipation ratings that best suit their applications, operating from 2.5 V down 0.65 V at up to 7 A. The 80 % efficiency of the SiP21301 solution helps to reduce energy consumption in end products while simplifying the design of dc-to-dc converters.

Designed to maintain regulation while delivering 7-A peak current, the new SiP21301 is ideal for systems that have a high surge current upon turn-on and very low drop-out voltage requirements. The SiP21301 features programmable inrush current protection on start up, short-circuit protection, thermal shutdown, and under-voltage lockouts for safe operation of the IC and the external MOSFET.

The controller offers an adjustable output voltage, as well as fixed 1.2-V and 1.5-V output voltage options. The device provides a low operating current, a low standby current, and a 1% output voltage accuracy.

The SiP21301 is available in the compact, lead (Pb)-free MSOP8 package and operates over a -40°C to +125°C junction temperature range.

Samples and production quantities of the new SiP21301 LDO controller are available now, with lead times of 8 to 12 weeks for initial orders.
