Laser Profile Scanner characterizes/maps cylindrical parts.

Press Release Summary:

COBRA ThetaStar(TM) performs dimensional measurement of cylindrical parts and comparison to source CAD files. Powered by Scan-X® Software, product scans surface of cylinder to capture high-density point clouds in full 360° rotations. Total scan lengths can be up to 50 mm with point spacing resolutions down to 0.05° and 0.001 mm. Unit offers scan rates to 1,000 points per second, rotational speeds to 1 revolution per second, and Z-axis resolutions to 0.125 µm.

OGP Announces New COBRA ThetaStar(TM) Laser Profile Scanner

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Rochester, NY, June 2003 - Optical Gaging Products, Inc. (OGP®) introduces COBRA ThetaStar(TM) Laser Profile Scanner-a NEW high-resolution, high-speed laser scanner for dimensional measurement of cylindrical parts and comparison to source CAD files. In-depth characterization and mapping of cylindrical parts using conventional inspection methods can be challenging. ThetaStar greatly simplifies and accelerates these demanding inspection tasks through the seamless integration of patented laser sensor technology, proven rotary and linear motion technology, and advanced software algorithms for detailed analysis.

Powered by NEW Scan-X® Software, ThetaStar scans the surface of a cylinder to capture high-density point clouds in full 360° rotations. Total scan lengths can be up to 50 mm, with point spacing resolutions down to 0.05° and 0.001 mm. With scan rates up to 1,000 points per second and rotational speeds up to 1 revolution per second, ThetaStar collects large amounts of data quickly. With Z-axis resolutions down to 0.125 µm, ThetaStar is ideal for checking heights and depths of surface features, as well as wall and coating thicknesses. When coupled with IQ-FormFit(TM) 3D, a comprehensive 3D fitting package, ThetaStar can export raw point cloud data from cylindrical parts in "unrolled" format for 3D comparison against nominal CAD files.

COBRA ThetaStar can be used with any of four available models of DRS laser sensors. Sensors can be changed quickly, giving COBRA the flexibility to accommodate a wide range of applications.

COBRA ThetaStar will be featured in OGP's booth # 2545 at MD&M East 2003. For more information on Cobra laser scanners, or any of the OGP metrology solutions, contact Optical Gaging Products, Inc. at (800) 647-4243, www.ogpnet.com, or e-mail at sales@ogpnet.com.
