Cleveland, Ohio - October 12, 2004 - Keithley Instruments, Inc. (NYSE:KEI), a leader in solutions for emerging measurement needs, announces the Model KUSB-488 USB-to-GPIB Interface Adapter. The Model KUSB-488 transforms any computer with a USB port into a full-function, IEEE 488.2 controller that can control up to 14 programmable GPIB instruments.

The small size and light weight of the Model KUSB-488 makes it ideal for portable applications using a laptop computer or applications in desktop computers where I/O slots are scarce or nonexistent and where several USB ports are available. The Model KUSB-488 works with Windows 2000/XP/Me/98 computers with a USB port, is USB 2.0 compatible, and has an IEEE data transfer rate of 880 kbytes/sec.

The Model KUSB-488 has a built-in 2-meter USB cable that supplies power, eliminating the need for external power sources.

The Model KUSB-488 is easy to install and use, as there are no external DIP switches and no need to restart the computer for the system to recognize the IEEE 488.2 interface. The Model KUSB-488 is a plug-and-play interface that the operating system automatically recognizes and configures as soon as it is physically attached to the USB port on the computer.

The Model KUSB-488 eliminates the need to 'crack open' the computer to install a plug-in GPIB interface. Potential users include test-system engineers, system integrators, researchers, and OEMs involved in instrument control, rack-and-stack test stands for production, laboratory research, and portable applications.

The Model KUSB-488 is compatible with Visual Studio and Visual Studio.NET, including Visual C#, Lab VIEW, Lab Windows, Microsoft Excel VBA, Delphi, and TestPoint. The Model KUSB-488 is ffiEE-488.1- and IEEE 488.2-compatible. Connectors are ffiEE-488 standard 24-pin and USB standard series-B plug. Power comes from the USB connection with a maximum power consumption of 200mA. The Model KUSB-488 measures 4.2 inches by 2.6 inches by 1.0 inch, is CE compliant, and has external USB Configured and USB Active indicators. Operating temperature range is 0°C to 55°C with relative humidity from 10 to 90% non-condensing.

Price and availability: Retail price is $495 (US), and units come with a three-year warranty.
