Inclinometers handle harsh industrial environments.

Press Release Summary:

Series SCA61T offers internal temperature measurement and compensation, and long term stability better than 0.25 mg. Maximum offset error guaranteed over entire temperature range of -40 to 125°C, without additional compensation, is less than 15 mg for ±1 g sensor. Models SCA61T-FAHH1G and SCA61T-FA1H1G are 4 V/g and 2 V/g units that measure up to ±0.5 g at ±30° and ±1 g at ±90°, respectively. They feature analog output along with digital SPI output.

Original Press Release:

SCA61T Series - The Most Accurate MEMS Inclinometer in the World

Based on the proven MEMS technology and highly integrated electronics, VTI Technologies has developed a new inclinometer/accelerometer component family. The versions of the new SCA61T Series are equipped with internal temperature measurement and compensation, which offers additional external compensation. This together with a long term stability better than 0.25mg enables extremely high accuracy over the temperature range (-25...85°C). The maximum offset error guaranteed over the entire temperature range (-40...125°C), without additional compensation, is less than 15mg for a ±1g sensor.

The new sensor has an analog output with wide load drive capability, along with a digital SPI output, which both acceleration/inclination and temperature can be read. The resolution of the analog signal over an 8Hz bandwidth is 40 µg, whereas the digital resolution is 0.05%/FS. The SPI interface also enables field calibration to compensate for mounting errors.

In addition to offering continuous monitoring of internal interconnection failure and self test deflection, the analog output has a limiter function. These make external failures, whether short or open circuits, easily detectable. Like all other VTI products, the SCA61T Series are pick-and-place mountable and can be soldered using standard re-flow processes. They are completely lead free and thus environmental friendly.

The first available products in the SCA61T Series are SCA61T-FAHH1G (4 V/g) and SCA61T-FA1H1G (2 V/g), which are able to measure up to +/-0.5 g (+/-30°) and +/- 1 g (+/-90°) respectively. Designed for accurate inclination measurements, these products show excellent reliability and performance in any harsh industrial environment. Both parts typically have zero point temperature dependence less than 2mg (0.1°) over the temperature range from 0...70°C and 4mg (0.2°) over the temperature range from -25...85°C. These errors can be individually compensated to reach the highest accuracy.

In instrument applications, the final accuracy is limited by the noise level of 15 µg/√Hz. The sensors are insensitive to vibrations due to the over-damped sensing elements. These extremely accurate sensors can withstand mechanical shocks of more than 20,000g.
