Rockwell Automation Introduces Versatile New Bases for Flex and POINT I/O Families

Knife-disconnect termination and one-piece bases help meet customer needs for ease-of-use and cost savings

Mayfield Heights, OHIO, Sept. 21, 2006 - Rockwell Automation has introduced versatile new bases for its Flex and POINT I/O systems that deliver more flexibility and cost savings for OEMs and end users who need to apply control system I/O close to sensors and actuators. The new bases are ideal for OEMs that desire high-performance, adaptable machines to satisfy their customer's desire to maximize uptime and minimize call-out requirements.

"Rockwell Automation continues to address industry and customer demands through its integration, technology migration and distributed solutions," said Jerry Penick, marketing manager, Rockwell Automation. "These additions to our product lines offer the innovation, efficiency and usability that OEMs and end users need to grow their bottom line."

Flex I/O With Knife Disconnect Termination
The company has introduced a knife disconnect terminal base for its Flex I/O modular system that is compatible with its eight and 16-point discrete and up to eight point analog modules. This new product (1794-TBKD) eliminates the need for a separate knife disconnect isolation block to troubleshoot problems and allows measurement and calibration of current loops without shutting down the system or rewiring the termination point.

The knife disconnect terminal base provides single-pole, single-throw (SPST) knife switch action for each side of the I/O channels for modules with up to eight points or for a single side of I/O channels for modules with up to sixteen points. The 16-SPST switches and 28-screw terminations allow customers to avoid additional wiring terminations and the potential for wiring errors during troubleshooting.

POINT I/O With One-Piece Base
The new one-piece base for Allen-Bradley POINT I/O systems reduces the installed cost by eliminating the removable terminal block. It is ideal for OEM applications where flexibility and low-cost design are crucial.

The one-piece base is 100 percent interchangeable with the two-piece POINT I/O bases, which allows users to mix-and-match their I/O nodes and continues to offer the ease of a single action to remove and reinsert the base from the DIN rail. The one-piece bases are available with screw or spring clamps.

POINT I/O with the new one-piece base will be available globally in mid-July 2006. Flex I/O with knife disconnect termination will be globally available in August 2006.
