Rockwell Automation Increases Programmable Controller Throughput by Moving Boolean Logic to I/O Modules

New Allen-Bradley Compact I/O module from Rockwell Automation uses Boolean logic to support demanding control applications

MAYFIELD HEIGHTS, Ohio, Aug. 24, 2006 - The newest addition to the Allen-Bradley Compact I/O family from Rockwell Automation offers users an opportunity to manage advanced control capabilities in applications such as packaging and material handling. Adding to the wide range of Compact I/O, the 1769-Boolean module is designed for the rigors of factory automation environments, providing an exceptional component with equally exceptional value.

Designed for use with Allen-Bradley CompactLogix and MicroLogix 1500 controllers, the new Compact I/O module has the intelligence to activate outputs based on Boolean logic. This alleviates overhead on the controller and can result in faster response times and improved system performance. The 1769-Boolean provides the ability to address a requirement for high-speed closed loops in the CompactLogix programmable automation controller (PAC) platform. In addition, the module has both 24 Vdc inputs and outputs and also has the intelligence to activate outputs based on simple Boolean logic programmed by the user.

"Control system designers and users are constantly looking for ways to improve their system throughput, and this module is a powerful new tool in their portfolio," said Jeff Petro, product marketing manager, Rockwell Automation. "Adding Boolean logic to the I/O module results in more efficient use of controller capacity, which in turn extends the functionality of the controller."

Compact I/O, which was first introduced in early 1999 is used to enhance system performance and expansion capabilities. With its innovative design, Compact I/O reduces system cost and inventory, has a front removal and insertion which reduces time for initial system assembly, and features high density I/O termination which reduces panel space requirements.

The Boolean module offers flexible configuration and mounting options, including panel mount or DIN rail. In addition, no chassis is required, helping to conserve panel space. Each I/O module can be individually removed from its position for replacement, including the unique, built-in removable terminal block with a finger-safe cover for connection to I/O sensors and actuators.

The 1769 Boolean Compact I/O module is now available.
