WAGO-I/O-SYSTEM Expands I/O and Fieldbus Connectivity for Frequency Converter

Germantown, WI, April 2004 - As a result of a collaboration between WAGO and SEW-EURODRIVE, the MOVIDRIVE frequency inverters from SEW can now be connected to popular fieldbus protocols using the WAGO-I/O-SYSTEM.

The WAGO 750-653/000-021 RS-485 interface I/O module provides the communication link between the frequency inverter and all WAGO Programmable Fieldbus Controllers (PFC). This connection provides three words of process input data, as well as three words of output data from the converter for decentralized control or network master control via the PFC. In addition, it is possible to use a parameter channel to access or manipulate any parameter in the inverter. The communication between the PFC, serial module, and the frequency inverter is made possible via a function block (SEW.LIB), which can be downloaded for free from WAGO's website, and is created in the IEC61131-3 programming tool from WAGO, a.k.a. WAGO-I/O-PRO 32, and stored in the PFC.

"The solution provided by this partnership eliminates the need for expensive and hard to get PLC option boards," claims Mark DeCramer, Advanced Electronics Product Manager for WAGO Corporation. "In addition, the MOVIDRIVE frequency inverter can now be connected to popular fieldbus protocols such as DeviceNet, Ethernet, CANopen, Profibus, Modbus, and more, as well as be offer additional application flexibility with connectivity to many signal types; to include digital, analog, and special functions."

The WAGO-I/O-SYSTEM is a compact, modular, fieldbus independent, and signal independent distributed control or I/O system. With front-end solutions that include Programmable Fieldbus Controllers, Bus-Couplers/network adapters, and ECO Bus-Couplers, it offers connectivity to over 16 different fieldbus protocols, as well as over 100+ modular (1, 2, 4, or 8 channel) I/O modules for analog, digital, and special function signal interfaces.

WAGO is the worldwide leader in spring pressure connection technology designed to eliminate loose wires as a result of vibration and temperature cycling, as well as provide a highly reliable, corrosion resistant, and maintenance-free connection. Our complete line of spring pressure connection products include DIN rail mount terminal blocks, chassis mount terminal blocks, PCB mount terminal blocks, relays, signal conditioners, power supplies, surge suppressors, the WAGO I/O SYSTEM and more.
